OT: USA Memorial Day Thank-You!

Just came from a "small-town" Memorial day celebration. Local parade (both my Cub-scout kids marching, carrying flags).

If you've ever "worn the uniform" and served this great nation, thanks! :)

My Dad served in Korea.

I played many USO shows all over Europe and met many soldiers. They are a special group of people and I’m thankful for them. People often argue politics and anti this or that, but in the end it’s this special group of people that WILL do the hardest job and protect this country.

And now an amusing antidote…

On time over in Germany on a USO tour with Billy “Crash” Craddock we played a request from one of the troops for “My Old Kentucky Home”. We did the best we could, but it was pretty much a train wreck. I noticed this very tall soldier crying as we played the request. I went over to him after the show and said “I noticed you were emotional when we played “My Old Kentucky Home”, I bet you are from Kentucky.” He said “no, I’m a musician.”

I'm a Navy veteran ,1986-1991 U.S.S. John F. Kennedy (CV-67), and I appreciate when folks take a moment to thank a vet. Although Memorial Day is when we honor those soldiers who paid the ultimate price for our freedom, I also would like to thank the guys and gals serving in hostile regions around the world today. You may not agree with the political landscapes out there, but I think we can all agree that our armed forces are second to none and we owe them a huge debt of gratitude. Anyhow, that's why I hang here....quality folks round this place. Thanks again guys, and if you think about it and you're inclined to do so, pray for our troops and consider getting involved in letter writing or care packages for them. I know it meant the world to me to get a bit of home when I was over in Iraq the first time.

That's one of the greatest gig stories I've ever heard! Hahaha! I love it.

On the somber side, my Dad is a Vietnam vet, and we all know what those poor guys went through not only 'over there', but also when they came back here.

So I'm remembering the men of the 1st Battalion of the 50th Infantry today, Welcome Home!
 
I hole heartedly thank each and every one that has served our great country, I may not always agree with whats going on, but I appreciate everything you have done to allow us the freedom to do what we wish (too an extent legally)

coming from a kid this probobly doesn't mean much, but thank you.

p.s. that's an awesome story.

Hey my dad was on that ship too! He was a mechanic on the F-4. However he was on it I believe around 75-79 if im not mistaken. I have all kind of cool pictures of that ship!!
 
Would just like to stick my two pence worth in and say thanks to all you chaps out there, Brits, Americans, and the Anzacs who have done us all proud over the years.
Damn it - anyone who wears a uniform and has stodd up for noble principles deserves a pint and our respect.

Sweet! I always thought the F-4 Phantom was super cool looking and a great plane overall. They were long gone by the time I was stationed aboard her. Actually, I was there when the Navy decided to scrap the A-6 Intruders in favor of the F-18 Hornets. Big mistake if you ask me, the "Flying Drumstick" is an awesome aircraft. Oh well, they didn't ask me............ :rolleyes:

I have a couple nice shots of the "Big John", my favorite is one where she is in drydock out of the water and two guys are standing underneath the screws. (Propellers to you landlubbers ;) ) Those babies are like 30+ feet in diameter. HUGE.
 
People say you sometimes question the politics, but you ALWAYS support the soldiers. They're doing something I could never do. Thanks to everyone all over the world serving to make this a better world.
