Theres an autograph of Abe Laboriel for only $2799 -
Used Basses, second hand fender, used fender, second hand
(3/4 of the way down the page)

Oh yeah, and you get a free Goodfellow 6 string bass with that! ....lol :)

Yeah, I saw that bass there the other day. Bass was OK. Signature was great.:D I have been a big Abe fan since forever. There have been some interesting coincidences in our past although we have never met in person. Back in 91, I was involved in a recording (singing) that he was playing session work for. (The producer raved about working with Abe. He now tours with him, playing keys.) My best man's mum (string player) has toured with him. I have done sound for touring artists that have done live work and recorded with Abe. I have bought dozens of recordings with him playing, not knowing he was on them. Neat eh.

Oh yeah, I forgot the other freaky thing that really started it all was back in '81 when I was a true bass n00b. When the band I was in got to jam with Fletch Wiley (jazz trumpet and flute, now grammy winning producer). Fletch was in Australia at a music conference and had just finished recording a solo album with.... you guessed it, Abe playing bass. That kind of sealed it for me. Prior to that I had had all sorts of musical endeavours including guitar, violin, percussion, vocalist, but from that time on I was a bass player!

BTW: I noticed on the same page Used Basses, second hand fender, used fender, second hand there is a black sparkle Stingray just like dobs1981 just bought. It also says it is SOLD.

I wouldn't ask a celeb for an autograph if they were eating dinner or obvously busy or something, but i would if they were just milling around sorta thing... like at NAMM or something. I have the lead guitarist from bullet for my valentine's autograph... a friend offered to get it for me so i was like fine... haha could be worth something one day.

What an interesting thread! I wouldn't have thought that so many had similar feelings to mine about autographs... The autographs I do have are from rather unknown artists, who signed the CDs they sold after a show.

In general, I'm way too timid to establish communication with a celebrity. However, since I've had a bit more experience with playing live and knowing how good it can be to get some feedback after the show, I try to walk up to the artists if they hang around after the show and tell them what I liked. Sort of returning the good feelings they spread during the show...

I have several Bass Player Magazine covers autographed by the players on the cover with the same thing signed

To Mike: Get a Real Job:

by

Michael Manring
Michael Anthony
Geddy Lee
Stu Hamm
John Patitucci

Plus a photo of Will Lee..same thing: Mike get A real job...

A business card with Sir Paul's auto...but he wouldn't wouldn't write the 'real job' part as I told him I was a bass player and he said: mate that IS a real job.

It's just something my dad always used to say. Actually he still says this...along with 'get a hair cut'.

Just for my kids.

I recently got the band Hedley (Canadian Emo rock band that appeals to the teens/tweens) to sign a CD for my son and they also posed for pictures and played Guitar hero at an event with him. Actually genuinely nice guys.

Besides that.... Mats Sundin (Toronto Maple Leafs Captain and a god in Toronto) during dinner at Mortons. Again... for my kid.

I will approach famous people from time to time and tell them I appreciate their music or whatever it is they do, but never bother asking for an autograph.

As an aside.... my wife is on business in NYC right now watching (as I type) the Foo Fighters play at Madison Square Gardens...... I get to take a 10 and 12 year old to a concert in Toronto tomorrow....... Yup.. you guessed it.... Hedley!!! AAAGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!:eek::D

If I ever have an opportunity (that is "cool" with the celebrity of course), I politely ask them to sign something TO ME, that way they know that I am really a respectful fan, not someone who pimps them out to sell their signature on eBay.

I think that is what pisses most people off these days.

Of course if the situation isn't right, it still is a huge thrill to be around someone who you look up to!

Respect is necessary.

Years ago, I would have asked for an autograph.

Nowadays, a simple handshake and "nice to meet you" is good enough for me...any small-talk or discussion beyond that is icing on the cake.

I have to say that I do have some auto's from guys I find important to me.

I went to NAMM last month and, like most of you, I was more excited to shake hands with some of the cats who have inspired me to play. When I did get autographs I had everything made out to my two young sons. Since my boys are pretty young (4 and 2 yrs old) I figured it would be cool to get these auto's for them just because one day they will ask me "Hey Dad, who's this guy?" Then, I can break out some CD's, or whatever new format they have for us by then, and play some music from artists who affected my life.

I have to say that almost all of the artists who auto's I did get appreciated the idea behind getting them for my boys. Billy Sheehan even said he would try to get more famous so the auto's would be worth more :D :D :D

I must confess that I did have Luke and Morse sign an 8x10 pic that was taken at the Desert Bash. It's a great picture of Steve Morse - Me - Steve Lukather.

I don't have many autographs, and 99% of the ones I have were obtained during some session where the artist was 'scheduled' to be signing autographs.. I probably wouldn't ask otherwise.

However, I have some notable exceptions.

I have autographs from BP, Dudley, and JP on the trem plate of my JP6 from the Open House in SLO a few years ago (awesome!).

From that same event, I have an autographed picture of Lucious.. I told him "write something dirty".. and he obliged! Hahaha. Thanks for that, Lucious!

I also have a signature on a guitar headstock.. I'd tell you about it but I'd have to kill you.. and there sure are a lot of you. ;)

I've met and gotten autograph's from Jaco. Victor Wooten, Rocco Prestia, Adam Nitti, Jim Marshall (autographed an amp for me) and (don't laugh-it's a long story) Cher. Every one of those celebs was very gracious.

That one is probably the most interesting, especially with a long story...! ;)
It really is. To make a long story short my sister-in-law is a close friend with her and she invited the entire family to Atlantic City for the V.I.P treatment when she was appearing there. We were wined and dined and invited to rehearsals, the show, and a V.I.P. party afterwards that included her cast mates Vincent Gardinia (he was a really nice warm and funny guy) and Olivia Dukaukis from her movie Moonstruck. Cher was a down to earth class act from the get go.

I'm with BP on this one - I have run across celebs in the hospital from time to time and seen coworkers asking for autographs

IN THE HOSPITAL!!!

I was appalled - these folks were there for their own health or a family member's, and people are bugging them. I could see asking someone for an autograph if you were working with them or after a show when they had made themselves available, but not during their personal time.

That being said, I had a backstage pass written on a business card from Jaco's dad - he cut my dad's hair. I never got a chance to use it.:(

A friend of mine knows Jack Casady, and a few years back I had one of Jack's signature basses. My friend got him to sign the pickguard. I no longer have the bass, but I felt like the sig made it a little more special. I'm sure it netted me an extra $5 or so when I sold it. :D
