So this was one of my better ideas. Never quite bonded with the Sunburst Al (I think it was the colour, never been much for super traditional finishes or instruments) and I had had my eye on this bass since the first time if came up on the Perfect Bass website. The White Al is still my favorite bass ever, but there is something to be said for a fat humbucker in the sweetspot. This is not my first Bongo, nor my first single H, but I don't ever remember the Red Single H I had back in the day sounding this good. Of course my tastes and abilities have changed quite a bit since then, but this thing is golden. We're recording another three songs next month, I think I'll get the Bongo in on one of them and do the other two with the Big Al.
Ice Blue is really awesome...all you people who didn't get to buy a bass in this finish before it was discontinued should feel bad Thanks to Brandt for the rocking deal and the superb setup with the strings I ordered (didn't realize he was going to install the strings for me as well...I like). The action is still awesome even after going from Louisiana to frigid Chicago. This one is going to the next gig for sure!
As awesome as the ice blue is (and it is!), what really sets this one apart is its combination with the vintage pearl PG. Also, the fretboard on this one is especially dark and luscious. I played with it on 12/10 and was oh-so-close to nabbing it myself until self-control got the better of me. I was pleased when Brandt told me it went to the forum.
Very nice indeed! That colour combo is killer and I'd love to get a Big Al in Ice Blue. I thought they'd be around for some time and went to get a 25th instead...
