I bet Lava Pearl. Looks nice. I don't think I've ever seen a Morse in that colour, or anything similar.

Well, it's 2:30 in the morning, so it's been here for a number of hours now. I've been playing it pretty much nonstop with the exception of a pretty killer sushi break in the middle. The UPS guy cut it close! Residential delivery hours stop at 7 pm. He pulled up at 6:55.

Initial thoughts:

• Gorgeous. The black ice pickguard looks way, way more understated in person and is actually pretty darn classy. No way am I changing it now.
• The color is also much more of a coppery-orangey-reddish color than some of the pictures make it look. I thought this thing was gonna look like a cartoon (albeit a cool-looking cartoon) but in reality it's far more reserved and actually much more my taste than I expected. Cool.
• Perfectly balanced. Probably around 8 pounds.
• Dead mint. Nary a scratch. Like it just came off the line yesterday!
• Plays smooth and fast. LOTS of sounds. Good sounds. I'd read other places that the pickups in these are really specific to Steve and not very useful to many other people. POPPYCOCK. BALDERDASH. They sound great.
• VERY resonant unplugged. My wife says to me (as I'm walking around plunking on the thing while she's getting ready for bed) "Wow - that's a loud one!"

I'm still getting the setup dialed in with trussrod and bridge adjustments. I use pure nickel 11-50 gauge strings tuned to Eb on all my guitars so with most of them there's a getting-to-know-you period for both of us.

I've about got the switching system down to second nature now.. You guys were right - what seemed daunting for the first 20 minutes actually makes a great deal of sense and yields a ton of great tones. I was worried that the P'up 1 switch would get in the way, but it's fine.

Overall I'm very happy with it so far. I still need to test it with the band through the gig rigs, but at home through the pod, it's def. a winner.

Well, Sosmething.... I take back what I said earlier. I'm afraid it looks dreadful & an abhorrence on the true Morse spirit of originality & integrity built over the last 20 yrs or so. You should be ashamed & get shot of it immediately

But as I feel partly responsible as having encouraged you to get it so my conscience makes me obliged to take it off you for nominal compensation so you are not entirely out of pocket

Seriously, it looks fantastic. congrats. That has to be a keeper and yr no 1.

Think I would have swapped my Blueburst for that & that is saying something indeed

Congrats on making the right move on a beautiful Morse as you cannot lose. If you bond and keep it which I believe you will after a few days you have a wicked sounding and looking ax, and if not you will have no problem selling it. Win-win!

Pete thanks for the history and rundown on the color schemes and choices. It is really amazing that so many of us have never seen or even thought the Standard Morse was available in so many colors, as like you stated mostly everyone stays faithful to Steves color.I am not a sales man but I bet if there were a few layouts of the guitar in magazines showing it in a few finishes there would probably be a spike in sales. To be honest I hate Steves color as it reminds me of a Smurf lol, but when I saw the guitar with the Y2D finishes I had to get a Purple Sunset which to me is one of the most beautiful finishes I have seen. These are the strange stories of gear junkies.lol

Thanks guys... I'm pretty happy with it. I won't make "the call" for sure until I get to play it at band practice in a full-band setting but all indicators point to a keeper.

I just have one problem. I wanted an EBMM really badly, so I got this guitar.

Result?

I JUST WANT ANOTHER MUSIC MAN.

Why didn't anyone tell me this would happen?!?!

Now all I need is a HH AL with a rosewood neck, a JP6 with piezo, a SSS Silo, a Silo Bass, a Reflex....

No sparkle - more of a metallic color. It seems like it would look appropriate on a fast car.
