...............but what exactly makes a guitar a "Ball Family Reserve" guitar? Is it just some special features added to an existing model? If so, what would those features be and how much extra do the reserve models cost vs. the standard production models? I saw the BFR Axis on the 2008 NAMM thread, and it looks pretty cool. My regular production one is SUPPOSED to be here today, and I am losing my mind waiting.

Thanks for any info.

An idea, a whim, a challenge, a good shipment of wood, a "what if we did x"?, a demonstration of great American instrument manufacturing, a contribution to a family legacy..

That's the beautiful thing... it's anything the Ball Family wants it to be or as in any great art, how the viewer interprets it.

And the official press release

Ernie Ball Music Man Introduces Ball Family Reserve Instruments, Limited Edition Blue Dawn and 20th Anniversary Sting Ray 5 at NAMM 2007

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA (January 18, 2007) – Ernie Ball proudly heads into the 2007 year with an array of new instruments fit for the Ernie Ball Music Man family including the Ball Family Reserve Series of Instruments, the 2007 addition to the Limited Edition Series, and the 20th Anniversary edition of the Music Man Sting Ray 5. Blending original features with modern improvements, these new models will debut at the Ernie Ball booth (#5440) at the 2007 Winter NAMM show, taking place January 18-21 in Anaheim, CA.

Ball Family Reserve Series
The last of a dying breed, the Ball family makes guitars and basses exclusively in the United States and is proud to offer the Ball Family Reserve line of instruments – an exceptionally finished and figured selection of instruments that celebrate the company’s heritage in instrument construction and craftsmanship. The rare pieces in this collection will be limited runs and include a distinct collection of instruments that, until now, were reserved exclusively for members of the Ball family and loyal Ernie Ball-endorsed artists.

Well Sigmund said alot that explains it, but also has features that standard models do not, including a mahogany tone block, premium tops and other special features.

Yes they are more expensive but well worth the costs, contact a dealer to find out how much more.

I own two BFR models the AL, just blows the regular model out of the water in my humble opinion and a limited KOA BFR Axis Super Sport, both worht the extra money tone heaven baby:D
