BP you sure feel strongly about this. I feel the pride and sense of ownership for every instrument that leaves the factory there.

Going back to the levity, that is what is called a BFR. Broke Farkin' Ray.

DO these guys really think that this is original? Cool? Flea over did it the who started it. It is a tragic waste of a bass that could be played by someone somewhere....

I have said this many times, never understood smashing a guitar. To me it is just flaunting arrogance. There are so many kids in school that would die for a nice instrument. I remember the piece of junk I started out on. What I would have given to have had an EB back then.

If they gave 'em to me for free, I would wind up to break it and then hand it to some kid in the front row. Would do a lot more good.

And doesn't that bass player have a road crew? They ALWAYS have DUCT TAPE.

Maybe he's going for the mad max post apocaliptic look...... That is almost as bad as the vintage Sabre I saw on the bay that had the paint crudely sanded off and those huge ugly brass tacks nailed around the edges of the body. I would of at least tried some elmers glue and bondo.....

Too many pessimistic attitudes....

Maybe he was throwing the bass to a stagehand who missed. Or performing a stunt that went bad, but loved the bass so much that he just wired it straight to the pickup so he could keep playing it the rest of the tour.

You guys are all way off. It's 1/2 of a Steinberger. :)

here's a snippet from some web chat with the dude...
phoenix says: Hey!

rubyred says: Hey Phoenix, I saw your broken bass at the PR shows, I'm wondering how it broke in the first place?

phoenix says: There is one bass that I always play for the song, "Given Up" and it has become a tradition to smash the bass somewhere or other at the end of that song. That's why it looks pretty beat up.
