Yesterday I lost a friend. He was a friend first and a customer second. His name was Pat Bonham. HE was involved with our stuff for the most part of 30 years in Australia.

I met him in 1974. I was a wild guy entering the business and he was partners with a guy named Peter Hayward (Who also passed away).

Peter and I were like oil and water and Pat was always excited and positive. Qualities that
he carried throughout his life. When you are coming up in a business many people dont want to listen to you they want to go to the top. Pat never did that...he showed interest and respect from day one. I saw history repeat itself with Brian and Pat working a few NAMM shows ago and I remembered what Pat meant to me way back when.

Many people can try to manufacture passion, with Pat it came naturally. I remember driving him to the Sundance saloon in 74 to hear Albert play. I remember playing Pat a demo of Biff Baby's Allstars and him insisting on bringing us down there....not once but twice! He arranged clinics and gigs and drove us all over the country....(ok we flew to Adelaide and Freeemantle) Im sure he lost his ass but I'm also sure that he loved every minute of it.

When he found out about Anthony Kim and my involvement I heard from him a bunch but didnt hear from him for awhile and lept meaning to check up on him. I didnt know he had gotten sick. I feel badly that I didn't get in touch.

You get lucky a few times and get to have someone in your life where only good thoughts and feelings are associated with that special person. Pat Bonham was at the top of that list. I'll miss him.

Here is to you Patty!

BP and I were talking on the phone yesterday and wondering what the hell it is about December. It just seems to be a bad month for losing people.

Sorry to hear about Pat, boss. Let's hope the string is at an end!

What a wonderful epitaph, BP. I'm sure he's smiling (and cursing) the stories you've shared with us knuckleheads. And I'm more than sure he's smiling (and cursing) the stories you haven't shared with us knuckleheads. ;)

Rest in Peace Pat Bonham.

BP, you're so right about what a blessing it is to have a person or people like that in your life. To be seen and described that way by those you've mingled your affairs with in this world is, in my view, about the highest a person can aspire to. People like that shower joy and inspiration on those around them, and are therefor doers of God's work, whether they're "religious" or not. I didn't know your friend Pat, but I wish him "fair winds and following seas".

Yesterday we all lost a charismatic, loving and uplifting member of the music industry. Pat will be sorely missed by all of his friends and family at Ernie Ball/Music Man. I think Rick Chadwick from CMC Music put it very well:

"We’re going to miss Pat heaps. He was really passionate about his music and the industry, really loved and appreciated his family, and was always a buzz to be around. Plenty of entertaining stories, a twinkle in the eye, and a true gentleman (with a dollop of good old Irish larrikin) – just a great mix."

I cannot really express in words how this has affected me. Its striking how these "business" relationships grow and are nurtured after years of working together and I feel as though I've lost a jovial uncle.

So here's to Pat! He certainly wouldn't want me blubbering all over myself like I've been doing for the past 24 hours. Let's celebrate his life and the gifts that he has blessed us with!

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
-Irish Blessing
