This is devastating news. I've known Pat for over 10 years and he has always been a kind generous soul. I need to gather my thoughts to say the things I really want to say. My condolences to Carole and family.
Yesterday we all lost a charismatic, loving and uplifting member of the music industry. Pat will be sorely missed by all of his friends and family at Ernie Ball/Music Man. I think Rick Chadwick from CMC Music put it very well:
"We’re going to miss Pat heaps. He was really passionate about his music and the industry, really loved and appreciated his family, and was always a buzz to be around. Plenty of entertaining stories, a twinkle in the eye, and a true gentleman (with a dollop of good old Irish larrikin) – just a great mix."
I cannot really express in words how this has affected me. Its striking how these "business" relationships grow and are nurtured after years of working together and I feel as though I've lost a jovial uncle.
So here's to Pat! He certainly wouldn't want me blubbering all over myself like I've been doing for the past 24 hours. Let's celebrate his life and the gifts that he has blessed us with!
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
-Irish Blessing
There's no point me (or anyone who didn't know the guy) to say what a loss, you've all done that, and you guys knew him well.
The fact you all have such fond memories is the best way to remember him, it's funny how work colleagues quickly become friends, and when you loose them it's as close as loosing family,
I'm sorry for your pain, remember the good times, and smile about the things you did together.
BP i'm very, very sorry to hear news like this.
Sharing old times with the loved ones that we loss helps us and it's good to talk about you friend Pat.He sounds like a Gem of a guy.
I loss a very Dear friend of mine this year as well "Bobby Ferrara"
I was Bobby's first guitar teacher years ago.He became this incredable shredder and before he died he was working with Bruce Dickinson in which Kevin Shirley was producing the work...
I think about Bobby all the time because it wasn't his time to go and Bobby, just like your friend Pat was a kind, good, person.
It makes me take a closer look at my life when i think about stuff like this.it's all a big question to me.
Thank you for sharing with us forum members and even though i don't post much i'm on here every day because this really is like a family to the point were it's very personal between real freinds.
God Bless BP hang in there and pray for your friend Pat,RIP.
Sincerely,
Richb
That's such sad news. I met Pat once when Colin & I did a trip to Sydney a few years back. He was a great guy that invited these two young punks from QLD into his office to sit down and talk about guitars and shoot the breeze with us. What a generous man with his time. I know that Colin has always spoken very highly of him. A sad loss.
I can still remember the first time I met Pat, it was in this small restuarant here in Brisbane. My wife and I both fell in love with him and everytime I spoke to him (usually over the phone as he lived in Sydney) he always was genuinely happy to hear from me and always sent his love to Fiona and the girls. He was a wonderful man that has done a lot for the industry here in Australia and the stories he has told me about Sterling and Ernie will stay with me forever. He told me about these wonderful comics Ernie would draw and the early days of bringing the strings into Australia, wonderful stuff. One thing about Pat was he never talked smutty or made fun of people, he was a kind kind man that will be terribly missed.
I will miss hearing that wonderful accent of his and I can't tell you how tragic this sad news is. My heart goes out to Carole and the CMC family.
Pops...sorry about your friend. I have been there before and it is difficult to say the least. You have many great memories and that is wonderful. If you need anything....give me a call.
I had the pleasure of spending some time with Pat a few times at NAMM. As well as his visit to our new location in the desert a few years ago. I was very impressed with how he carried himself, the epitome of a True Gentleman. He loved to talk about the history of this company and his experiences with Ernie and Sterling. He remarked about how impressed he was with Brian and Scott as this family business began expanding into the 3rd generation. He truly loved the Ball family, and this company and was very proud to be associated with it. He genuinely cared about the well-being of the company as well as me as a person. He was very interested in my personal life and wanted to know the details. He understood that good business is built on strong relationships and took the time to build those relationships. I'll always remember him for that.
Unfortunately, death is something I've had to deal with a lot in my family this last year. I was very sad to hear about Pat's death. But from each life lost I try to learn something from that person and from Pat it is to always be kind and treat people with respect. If we can all be half the man Pat was, we'll be doing pretty good. RIP!
