I stopped by a pawnbroker on the way home from the drycleaners this afternoon and saw this one. It played well, and it was a good price, so I had to drag it home. No case, of course...

33799, so 1991-1992, I figure. 6-bolt, metal battery cover, old-style bridge with center-grooved saddles. It's a little grubby, so I'm going to go through it tomorrow.

oh the knot in my gut over me foolishly trading my '90-'91 StingRay (mutes and metal batt. cover) for a One-banez SDGR 6 back in '93 is really tightening right about now... :(:(

that is a helluva find!!!

Great find! I wish there were pawn shops like that in our area... or maybe better not, I'd have too many nice basses! ;)

+1

The pawn shops around here have lots of Washburns and something called Staggs (?). Silverburst gets wonderful early nineties SR4s.

I started taking it apart a bit. The mutes are falling apart, so I will need to re-do them.

The nut is a little proud on one side. I guess that is something for my guy to look at:

Looks like the finish has darkened a little over the years:

Nice figuring on the neck:

Beautiful neck. So seems I've learned just since starting to hang out here, that the 90-91's (or atleast a number of them) came with these gorgeous figured maple necks. That's something I really long for in a future SR find/purchase. Looks like those might've gotten a light poly coat as well, huh? That'd work well for me ... wouldn't absorb the moisture from my hands as much & look dirty. That's an issue for me. I have to break out the steel wool & murphy's soap oil on the fretboard about once a year.

Such a lovely color

Ah, the first time I lusted for a Stingray was after hearing a guy play on a blueburst with maple fingerboard -SR so that finish will always have a special place in my heart. Congrats, Rex! And second dibs. ;)
