well, today I went out guitar searching and decided to open up my search horizons by including some pawn shops.I'm looking for obviously mm evhs, vintage kramers and charvels. So I went to a huge one up in worcester and to my surprise there was a nice vintage charvel staring me down and also A real nice purple silo special. As I got closer I noticed the prices and almost died laughing. He had the silo tagged at 1999.00! I couldnt believe it, It was nice but not that nice to pay over what they go for new. He kept saying they're all 25% off but even then its still more than buying new. He wasnt even pronouncing the names right. He said make an offer but I said "I dont think we're on the same planet in terms of price" and I left. Just thought some of you would get a kick out of that

Was this the place on Gold Star Blvd? I haven't been there in a while, but over the years, I go in occationally and find that you can pick up just about any $100 guitar there for $350. The only one I had any interest in, last time I was there was a Satriani marked down from $900 to $700. This was when Daddy's was still around. I headed over to Daddy's and they happened to have the exact guitar for $300.

I have no problem low balling. Maybe I'll head over and offer 1/2 the going rate and see what happens. I think they do their pricing for people who come in and pawn for store credit (they give you more than they would cash) and then come over to spend it.

There's another small, sketchy pawn shop just off Main St in Worc that is full of Squier and below type guitars at new guitar prices.

yes it was jack. and if the satriani you were looking at was reds, he still has it, and its still priced at 700 lol. The charvel I was looking at was a model 1 and was in great shape with a beautiful nneck, unfortunatley he wanted 999. The silo was definately nice but I would say maybe should be in the 900-1000 range. Real nice dark purple

Well guys the days of Pawn Shop scores are long over. For starters guitars were always a hot commodity and today with Ebay most owners check the listings for prices on guitars brought in. If you are going to look in PS your best chance of finding something worthwhile are looking in the stores in the worst neighborhoods. I have a friend who drives a tow truck and spends his nights in parts of the city that most of the normal people would never dream of stepping foot in lol. But I have seen him snag 4 or 5 really great guitars in those area's.

Pawn Shops are NOT places to buy stuff on the cheap. I remember several years ago seeing some power tool and asking how much they wanted for it. The guy quotes me a price more than a brand new one. There are several within walking distance of my work, and I always find it absurd what they are trying to sell stuff for. I did sometimes buy CDs there a few years back, but that's about it.

Quite honestly, I think the stuff is just for decoration. They likely just make money giving folks 'payday loans' for the stuff they pawn.
