I was going to post this under another thread but thought it might warrant its own. Music Man really should make these PDN packages a multi month ordering process.... or open a 2nd window sometime after the first guitars start showing up. That way those people who were on the fence and didn't want to order a guitar in a scheme never seen before can actually see some and be able to make a decision. Its tough to plunk down upwards of 2k on a guitar when you are mostly using your imagination on how you think it will look....especially when MM only makes 2 protos, only one of which was a guitar. Also, 30 days isn't a lot of time. Lets say the ordering window is 6 months.... then not only does it allow the on the fence people a chance to jump on the wagon but it also potentially includes those people who may not have had the money at the time. Its not like Honey Roasted or Neptune is going to appear again anytime soon and perhaps never again. I just disagree that a month or a little over a month is a fair amount of time for the fans of MM guitars.

Then wait until they come out and patronize the dealers on the PDN list. Its not like they are sold out or anything.

That was ez

Agreed. I love the buzz and excitement the short window generates and heck, even the fact that there's may be little to go on. Most people are aware now that they can expect a few of these runs every year so it's that much cooler for us hardcore MM guys to speculate and wonder what's coming down the pipe (and to save our pennies!). Snooze you lose is the way it goes sometimes but myself and many others could envision the potential for some of these combinations (JP6 BFR w/quilted top and all roasted maple neck/board, BFR Luke, etc.) and didn't hesitate for a second to place those rare combos on order.
Rarity is the other factor. The short window keeps the pieces limited and gives those willing to take the risk the reward of having something really special.

I suspect that EBMM *loses* money, or at best breaks even, on these PDN runs. (Note: Breaking even is not good for a business, as it means that resources are not being employed effectively. A business that only breaks even will not survive.)

Even if I'm wrong, I'm sure they have their reasons for making the ordering window as long (or as short, depending on one's viewpoint) as they are, and I'm sure they are perfectly good reasons.

I think a month is an adequate amount of time, and I, for one, thank BP or whomever at EBMM makes these decisions for giving us the opportunity to buy these instruments.

I was lucky to get this luke3 when I did. They didn't make very many and would be hard to find another one. You have to jump on them or they're gone!

Its kind of cool to get something exclusive. I"m very excited to get my PDN LIII Neptune Blue (August I'm told). I was lucky enough to find a PDN Honeyburst Silo Spec in L&M well after the run was over.

if you're on the board, one will eventually come back for sale later.
I was PISSED that i missed the emerald green window, but was rewarded as the next PDN was cardinal red.

I like it the way it is. You miss out, you miss out. You get one, it makes it that much more special and rare.
I really don't need more than a month to decide whether or not I want one of the current run. I either do or don't. If there's a will, there's a way.....unfortunately.

August, eh? Interesting. Hopefully mine comes in at that time as well. Probably from the same store as well. I placed my order during that last week of the PDN. I don't expect it till Sept though but who knows.

...and, some of the music man dealers require a very small deposit to place an order, with the balance due upon delivery, which is typically three months. That makes ordering within the thirty days quite possible.
