Guys please post the fattest, screaming-est, crazies pedals you guys use for metal!! Thick, face-melting, soul crushing, time-warping, universe-exploding tone!!!

also, a bit of a noob question here...but I own a H&k Switchblade and am thinking of picking up an effects processor, perhaps a BOSS ME-50. I was wondering if it would be possible to store the BOSS presets and then toggle through them using the H&K midi footswitch?

I personally use a Protone Body Rot pedal for real face melting stuff or a Wampler Pinnacle 2 for more classic metal voicing.

I doubt you'd be able to do it with an ME50 but you could look at the TC Electronics Nova System , that has midi in and thru so should be capable

JP's distortion tone is all from his Mark V's.

I know he has a Keeley TS9/808 + mod in his rack. Not sure if he uses it it to saturate the gain on his amps, but he might.

My main question is why you wanted to settle with metal in pedal?

IMHO there just simply isn't anything like Tube gain and saturation.

Budget issue?

i have a hughes and kettner switchblade. and it screams, especially on the lead and ultra channels. but i'm actually insane (just ask my shrink) and i want even more gain. sort of like that movie the fast and the furious when they're dragracing and the guy pushes the NOS button on his steering wheel and the car just accelerates into another dimension. i want gain! more more more!!! i was thinking of getting the jason becker pro tone pedal and then the rusty cooley pro tone pedal, just for even more gain. thoughts? suggestions?

what pedals do you guys use???

if you want a heavier sound not always more gain helps that...in many cases as I was surprised to see a really heavy guitar distortion tone does not always have a lot of gain.
adding a bit of chorus and delay - like JP does for ex - may sound very heavy and distorted to our ears :)

try experiment maybe you'll notice that and find that tone you want :p

I've got my MXR Fullbore metal for sale! (PM me if interested!) It's got gobs of gain, and it is pretty versatile, but after a month I must quest on. I'm after a Suhr Riot, sounds amazing from the clips I've heard!!

I use a combination of pedals, amp and eq to get my tone. It all depends on the sound I'm trying to get.

For over-the-top metal, it's Mark V channel 3 in Extreme mode with the gain dimed and the graphic eq on using a classic V. Treble is at 4:00, Mid is at 11:00, and Bass is at 10:00.

If I want smooth overdrive, I go for Channel 1 of the Mark V in Fat mode, using the preset EQ and all tone controls at 12:00. I put a DeltaLab Tube Driver or Fulltone OCD in front of it.

I also have a "Rock & Roll" tone on channel 2. Mark 1 mode, gain at 2:00, treble dimed, mid at 4:00, bass all the way down. Can be used with or without an OD pedal. Kinda has that AC/DC sort of tone to it, but more American sounding.

If I were to go for one pedal to do metal, I'd probably get a Boss Metal Zone or Metal Core pedal and run it into the clean channel.

I'm gonna say that you're going to want to go find a music store with an easy display of the pedals you're considering and pick up a guitar and try em out. I was looking for my first separate pedal this week (I use a digitech muti-effects pedal now) and was astounded at the differences in all the pedals that said "metal, and distortion and overdrive". No 2 sounded the same to me and the controls did different things from one pedal to the next. I was able to go home and program in basically the exact sound I was looking for on the digitech using their XEdit software on my laptop.
