The SWR part number for the speaker is 006-7077-000 (Retail = $147.40 ea).

There is an actual part number on the driver--but I don't remember it and I already put it back in the cab and put the grill on.

I used to have them reconed at SWR in Sun Valley for $32. I would definitely recone before I payed $147.40 per speaker:eek:

You may want to get the part number off of the driver and see if you can find it thru a third party vendor. Would probably be cheaper than thru SWR.

Either that or go with a recone like Randy suggests. It should be the cheaper of the two options.

The replacement driver I got through Bass Central who got it from SWR/Fender who got it from Eminence or somebody had a different color cone than the original speaker, too. The whole thing was a certified fluster cluck. I say duct tape it up and run on three.

I would redo it with Eminence. About 60 dollars a piece for the drivers.

That would pretty much defeat the purpose of buying a specific brand of cab. Not to mention that you can't just slap any driver into any cabinet.

UPDATE:

I know a guy in CA that works for G&L. I emailed him about my situation and he gave the name a of a guy at Fender/SWR that deals with warranty repairs, etc. This guy (who shall remain nameless) sent me two replacement drivers. All I have to is send the old ones to him. This IS NOT the standard practice. Normally you have to take it to a SWR dealer, etc. and wait a year to get your driver reconed.

I'm very satisified. :D :D :D Hopefully no more drivers blow on me.

Glad to hear. Hope the cones that blew out just had a weak spot when they were formed. Post pictures of the surgery.

Of course if another driver goes out I think I'll drive to CA and hand deliver these cabinets to him instead. ;)

I will just say it is fun to plug the bongo into the peavey and ampeg cabs and just do the gig.

I hope it goes just like that for you after the problems are solved.

Awesome! Now that's the kind of service I used to get before the Fender buyout!
( They once replaced a blown transformer in my SM400S F.O.C. )
