Pesky Amps!

After several years of faithful service, all 3 of my weekends gigs have been some what spoiled by my Line 6 Duoverb sounding bad. What normally a fat sounding amp, sounds really thin and nasty, and the cleans just sound like mud. I suspect that its some issue with the speakers. Luckily I have another one as a backup, lets hope that its sounds good at my gigs next weekend!

What it does bring me to, is that I really would like to buy a HD147 and Genz-Benz 2x12 like the Stoner. Why do these potential essential purchases always come at the wrong time!?

I play through a Flex III XL on gigs, and use a Flex III Plus for rehearsal. Last summer my XL started to do the same thing. My Plus has not yet had that problem. For a long time I went to the Line 6 forum to check for others with that problem and it seemed I was the only one. I used the UNO midi connection to monitor (on the computer monitor) the virtual controls and much to my surprise found that the gain control was flicking about uncommanded. I had already downloaded a safe copy of my presets, so I did a factory reboot, and reloaded all my presets. Now, when I go to gigs, the first thing I do is turn each virtual dial back and forth to make sure they are still clean contacts, then zero them all out. On the XL, the only dials that are not zeroed out are the Reverb and two effect parameter dials. The master volume is adjusted as needed. I do not play with the other dials set off zero - I use the floorboard to select the presets and only really adjust reverb and master volume at the beginning of the night. Every year or so I will do the same full factory reset and reload and off I go - no more problems.

Perhaps this will help you solve your problem? I am not familiar with the Duoverb, but I think that all the recent (last 5 years) models are basically the same - computers (digital signal processors) with power amps and speakers. At the very least, trying this will give you something else to do with your computer other than post on the EBMM Forum..... (just kidding of course....)

Hi there,

Thanks for the heads up. I will give what you suggested a try. I half think it might be the speakers, as this poor amp has lived in the boot of my car for the last year or so! Luckily I have a lead on a new set of Duoverb speakers so I will give that a try too.
