Petitioning EBMM to release more PDNs for the Reflex HH5

Black Black Black ! After seeing the PDN top, thats a hard sell for me! Plus I already have a Black Sterling HH

Thanks for the heads up but I'm serious about waiting until the next release... for that kinda cash I want to love it. I also keep my basses for years. I've had a Sterling for a long time, traded the H when the HH came out & still have it. I have a Bongo HH5 which is great but I the versatility of the Reflex HH5 would be awesome for my 3 basses for life!

Have you considered buying a Vintage Sunburst RX5, and having it refinished to your specifications? It wouldn't be terribly expensive, or is it the neck and headstock of the PDN that caught your eye as well?

I personally do think it is pretty cool how these bfr special runs happen. They are for people like us here at the forums, who know that the will get something good. I am happy I ended up with a Black Sugar Roasted Big Al5H and a Rosewood neck SR 5HH. I have not seen a second until now and love the idea that they may be one-ofs.

I did not have a chance to play any one of them before I paid, but now the Al is my main axe. And I thin it looks very cool, even from far away:

The biggest difference with the PDN to me is the roasted neck and pau ferro fretboard. The Reflex already has a mahogony toneblock so the sound difference would come from the neck.

Early this year I was looking very hard for a Bongo with a roasted neck. I had missed out on the run from the previous year. I had pretty much decided I wasn't going to find one so I ordered the blue 5HS in March. When the PDN Honey Roasted package was announced I knew that was what I wanted. It set me back a bit to buy another new bass but I knew that was the bass I wanted for the long term.

If what someone said in this thread is true you may not have to wait too long for something you'll like. If GC comes out with a special run you may be able to get what you want.

Here's an interesting story. When this PDN came out I ordered an HS/piezo. The last few weeks I have been wishing I had ordered an HH/piezo because, being a rocker, I wanted the extra power. I was actually kind of bumbed that I might be looking at the HSp wishing I had the HH/p instead.
I got the call last Friday that my Bongo was in but there was a problem. Somehow the order was switched to an HH/p by accident . They asked me if I would take the HHp at the lower HSp price and, of course, I said yes. Talk about making my day!!!

BP- This thread is about this.... I think the Reflex HH5 is a fantastic bass... I figured as a result it would be made in more quantity... but it turns out that the Reflex sells poorly & the PDNs didn't want to stock it

No blame anywhere & I've said that MANY times, MANY times in all these posts. It is what it is & I just wanted to know why no Reflex HH5s were ordered & now I know... and I also know that NEXT time it will be the same so its Preorder a Reflex or you get none, if you want a Stingray\Sterling... its going to be there, because they sell 50\100 to 1 vs the Reflex

Now we know, thats all this thread is about

EDIT: I also believe that if people had more of a shot at this bass now seeing it the PDNs would be surprised at the pent up interest in the Reflex HH but it appears I AM WRONG so I'm certainly not blaming you or the PDNs for their decision

Im trying to explain it to you...Its no problem for me but reread your original post and it is sort of harsh even thought you didnt want it to be a flame war....it just came down to you not understanding how we work...if the reflex is hot we make tons of them As with most of what I do the public usually doesnt grasp it! maybe when Im dead!

BP- you're right... I didn't realize the Reflex is dead cold... who knew? amazing, such a great bass. Doesn't look like anybody here would jump for a Reflex HH5 either.

So as opposed to the Singlecut & 19mm guys I'll say I was wrong but I'm not sure why its not selling. I love my Sterling HH & Bongo HH but come on, the Reflex HH is clearly the most versatile.

I find the controls on the BigAl about as complicated as I want my basses to be. The Bongo also has amazing versatility.
I was lucky that when I missed the original window I called BC and TPB and found out both had a BigAl 5 SSS on order and available. I snatched one up right away so now I just have to agonize while I wait for it to show up.

The Reflex is a cool bass but for me it is the least desirable of the SR, Bongo, and BigAl.

When I get a simple bass I get frustrated when it doesn't nail a covers tone. I've been through a lot of basses lately and my sterling hh has been the best , the most versatile. Now that I've moved to 5 I only have the bongo . I can get the tonal versatility somewhat but usually requires adjusting more knobs , tougher on the fly.

I've found it's easier to change tone quickly using pickup configurations , parallel series vs a 4 band eq. Bongo blend vs sterling pickup selector ? No contest, sterling. I look forward to the reflex . Yeah it's going to take time. It took years to master my Eden navigator but In the end it was awesome

Also I miss having the bridge h in parallel , I'd love to have the passive mode and once u master the 4 band eq u really have some serious control . At certain venues ur tone just sucks , it's nice to have the ability to alter that. Hell yeah it's intimidating at first but once u master it, sweetness

In a practical setting what does the Reflex do that is more than these specs? Just trying to educate myself

Passive preamp: 500kohm volume and 250kohm tone - .047µF tone capacitor
Active preamp: 4-band EQ – 25kohm volume, treble, high-mid, low-mid, bass

Single Pickup – 2-way push button active/passive selector, 2-way push button series/parallel selector
Triple Pickup - 3 x 2-way push button pickup selector, 2-way push button active/passive selector

Why the Reflex is Awesome

We all know I was wrong about the market for the Reflex HH... but here is why I am RIGHT about the Reflex HH being awesome

1) The Bridge H in the sweetspot JUST like the Sterling & Stingray which is why they are magical
2) Playing off the Bridge pickup in that location more similar to the neck pickup than further down in the Bongo & HSS (Its a personal preference but its more natural to me Gimmie 3 Steps on my Sterling HH vs Bongo HH, Big difference)
3) Its the ONLY EBMM with a series & parallel button which changes TONE not just EQ. If you've owned a Sterling\Stingray H you know how cool it is to go parallel vs series at that bridge pickup... yes the Al & HSS have series\parallel configs
4) Passive tone (Not on Bongo Sterling Stingray)
5) 4 Band EQ (Not on Sterling or Stingray) Once you master these, you can really get your mids exactly where you want them & make up for cabs\PA\room dynamics that have too much mid bump or are too scooped without losing total control of your mids
6) Mahogany tone block standard (right?)

To me... it just has awesome extra features a Stingray\Sterling doesnt have & everything they do... also compared to the Bongo\Big Al\HSS it has the pickups in the magical spots that made the Stingray & Sterling so great... so why wouldn't you want MORE??

Its about versatility for ME... but some people may just want to dial in their tone, set it & forget it for originals... I can see why they would like a Bongo, Stingray H etc. I personally play covers all over the map & need to nail a tone from Skynrd Gimmie 3 Steps to Sublime What I got, to Bob Marley to GreenDay etc

The Sterling HH is the BEST I've found so far for versatility & the feature set on the Reflex can only improve that... so somebody tell me... what the hell gives? What bass exists that can nail so many tones? Why aren't people jumping all over these? Even if you are in an original band, this bass can get a million tones. Isn't it fun at night to play with all the knobs & buttons while practicing? Who wants the same tone all the time when they can have that PLUS everything else?

It sounds like the Gamechanger would be your thing, when they eventually make a 5-string version. Endless versatility and can be dialled up quickly (programmable pre-sets).
