anyone know what pickups EB is using in there petrucci 7 guitars? i just picked up a decent RG7 and the stock pickups are a nightmare! i can't get a single sound i like outa my Mesa. i was playing emg 81's before so i'm considering the 707 pickup. any reccomendations?

i really wanted to stay with emg's, but you have to route the pickup holes a bit to fit the 707's and i don't like that idea. mainly i need a new pickup with more and crisper highs and better mids. oh and clear low end would be a plus, rather than sounding like these A$$ clowns that play 7's today.

DiMarzio claims the 7 string Blazes are the closest thing to the Petrucci pickups. They don't sound nearly as good however. In short, they're not available except in the JPM 7...

I think there is a Air Norton 7 pickup. The Air Norton was the neck pickup in the old ibanez 6 string petrucci's.

yeah i pretty much decided i'm gonna go with a evolution 7 in the bridge and a air norton 7 in neck. i'm installing a new 500k split shaft pot (stock are solid) and a 1 meg tone pot. so it should be cool.
