Just spied the ad for the D-Sonic pickup in the new Guitar World with John Frusciante on the cover. Petrucci's got a good look going, I think, but here he's playing the Musicman (funny, you can't see the D-Sonic) but anyway just thought I'd throw a heads-up about the sighting. I love seeing him in any mag! Hope to see some JPM's with these pickups soon...MWAHAHA!

I think they prettied him up too much in that add. Looks like Dave Navarro.

Hehe, he's had a different look in the last few ads. The Mesa ad had big red hair, he had the frosted blond, now it's longish again and slick. Oh well, as long as he keeps playing those guitars the way he does I'm happy!

Yeah, I'm A LOT more interested in the prospect of a JPM with D-Sonic pickups than how he looks. Not that there's a hint of a prospect of a new JPM, but a guy can dream.

Yeah, "doesn't look the part" is one thing (though I don't see how that's all that relevant), but comments like "looks like a fagged guy" and "that fag look" are way out of line, man.

I wonder if my JP6 will come with the Dsonic, at first I was kinda leary about it but after hearing Random Hero's Dsonic'd JP it may have swayed me over to checking it out. Wether or not though, still gonna have great pickups as the old pups I hear are awesome. :)

A little info on the Dsonic

Our first heavy humbucker of the 21st century, the D Sonic™ is a high-output bridge humbucker designed for the extended low end and heavy chords that dropped tuning delivers, with serious treble response for singlenote solos and standard tuning.

The D Sonic™ is more than just a one-sound pickup, too. In addition to the standard series humbucking sound, DiMarzio's patented design utilizes 4-conductor wiring to access two different single-coil sounds plus parallel humbucking mode, for three additional sounds that are distinctive and versatile.

Output in Millivolts: 390
Treble: 5.5
Mid-Range: 6.5
Bass: 6.5
DC Resistance: 11.96K

Petrucci had a pretty rough and tumble look at the DuBaldo guitar clinic, long goat (not Zakk Wylde/Scott Ian long) and his hair greased back, looked good.

Hey random, how do you like the D-Sonic?

How about go back and edit your earlier comments....this ain't the place for that. Don't like his hair....fine...just edit the comments or delete the post....

Me, I could care less about JP's hairstyle...I'm jealous because I don't have any!

So nowadays prog metal is all about looks and hairstyles? Damn, I think I'm getting old.

I would love to 'play guitar for Shakira' though :p

I personally prefer it to the stock pickup. More mids, tighter low end, and generally alot more aggressive and modern sounding. I have it installed with the blade facing the neck, used for standard tuning. Works particularly well with my Dual Rectifier. :)

I highly recommend it.
