could you record a short sample of the clean middle position with the d-sonic? I would like to try it maybe someday but I'm concerned about the sacrificing the middle split position as you can't make the blade to be in the split position,

I'm also curious about how it interacts in the middle position as well as how it cleans up with the volume knob on full bridge vs. the stock pickup.

I've got to say I preferred Petrucci's tone when he was on the Nortons. The neck pickup seemed to have more clarity or something. Maybe the amps he's using now or the recording technique?

Who knows... who cares?! He's still an awesome guitarist in one of me favourite bands!
