Does anyone know of a place where I can see what amp he used on each album?
# Images and Words - Mesa Quad Preamp, Mesa Triaxis/2:90, Marshall JMP1 for Metropolis Pt.1, Roland JC120 for cleans.
# Awake - Only album to be quadruple layered. 2 takes using Dual Rectifier, 2 takes using Mark IIC+
# A Change of Seasons - Mark IIC+, Mark IV, TriAxis
# Falling Into Infinity - Dual Rectifier, Mark IIC+, Mark IIB, Mark IV, TriAxis
# Scenes From A Memory - Mark IIC+, Mark IV
# Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence - Mark IIC+, Dual Rectifier
# Train Of Thought - Road King Series I
# Octavarium - Road King Series I, Mark IV, Lone Star
# Systematic Chaos - Lone Star, Mark IV, Dual Rectifier
# Black Clouds & Silver Linings - Lone Star, Mark IV, Mark IIC+, Mark V
# Suspended Animation (solo cd) - Roadking Series 1, Mark IIC+
# Liquid Tension Experiment - TriAxis, 2:90 power amp
# Liquid Tension Experiment 2 - Mark IIC+, Mark IV
Not to seem rude or anything but I found all this on wiki. Next time just google it.![]()
There is so much gear running in his rig too. Thinking about just the amp is like asking what the nut was made of on a famous guitar and going out and getting a nut made of that material to get that tone. I think the LTE stuff was a smaller rig though and he had great gain tones on those records.

Half of that from Wikipedia is wrong. There was Dual Recto in the studio for Systematic Chaos, but numerous interviews where JP has said that almost all of the album was done with the Mark IV. The Repentance solo was the Lonestar lead channel.
As far as what he used for every album, I doubt you'll get a straight answer. There are numerous conflicting interviews out there that say one album is this amp, and the same album was a different amp. Search the JP forum. I know for a fact that there's a thread over there where someone did a timeline of what amps were used when. I also have pics of most of his rigs saved, just because I like checking out that type of stuff.

Not exactly sure what you're looking for hendog as for a "why" you want this info, but if it's a tone issue, as in you are looking for his tone, you'd be pretty solid with a Mark IV and a Mark IIC+. Or a Mark V could get pretty close too.

What is it with you guys.
I'm just wondering if someone knew of a timeline of amps somewhere.
What we are doing is trying to help you. At least I posted something. If you want some more credibility what don't you ask Mr. Petrucci himself? He has a forum where you can ask him questions directly...
That part of his forum has been closed for 7 years or so.

I'm just a fan trying to figure out what amp he is using when I listen to a particular album.
Oh I didn't mean to say it was a silly question or anything. Sorry for any misunderstanding. I was just saying that the amp is seeing so much extra processing down the line that it sort of drowns out the individual character of the amp. To me his tone is just great Mesa tone more than a IIC+ or a Rectifier or something specific like that.
