Here’s the issue. The low E (Pitch) has started buzzing for no apparent reason. It does not matter if it is fretted or open. In addition I have noticed that the Low E and High E strings are rubbing the neck just above the nut.

I followed the setup instructions listed in the FAQ section of the Ernie Ball site with no relief of the issue. In addition I have tried to raise the string height of Low E with no change in the condition. I also changed the strings when this issue popped up with the same gauge (.010 - .046) as the originals.

This guitar (John Petrucci 6 string) is a little more than a month old and I can’t sort out this issue. (It played great for the first month)

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I leveled the trem, then switched to .009s which I prefer. Didn't solve the problem 100% but its better. According to Ernie Ball the low E string barely above the fretboard past the nut is normal.

I just loosened the tension on the strings and the strings (Low E and High E) are not only rubbing but they are providing enough pressure to put indentations in the wood.

Looks to me like the neck may need some relief. I think it's time to talk to EB!

The string touching anything on the headstock side of the nut is a non issue. If you have a buzz, it is not because of that. Are you hearing the buzz through an amp or acoustically?

JDouglee - That was my thought. I visited Guitar Center and the Tech there came to the same conclusion.

I phoned MusicMan and the guys there were great. Sent it out today and they will take a look and rework whatever is necessary.

It is awesome to call a company and talk to real people without getting the phone tag run around!
