As some of you know, I am having a tough time finding the right tone with my current setup for covering songs from Suspended Animation. It's no surprise that I have a tough road ahead of me considering I am playing through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe.

I think I may have found a pedal that may get me close. Anyone tried one?

Damage Control Solid Metal is what I use. And my amp is a Blues Jr  Not exactly the Petrucci DT tone but it does get close to Suspended Animation.

So, I haven't tried that particular pedal from mi audio buy i plan on getting the mi audio pollyanna octave pedal. Looks sweet. Am octave up, octave down and two octaves down. Very few pedals actually do octave up.

It does look cool indeed!!! If your willing to strech to $300 try getting hold of a mesa studio pre and throwing it in the loop of your amp will get you alot closer i feel. Does the hot rod delux have a loop? I cant remember...

sure have a look into it anyway. A recto pre would be even closer but you wont find one for 300 snots. I have a studio pre and ive tried it in the loops of various amps and it is such a good preamp will only do one god sound a time due to the shared eq etc but that one sound is worth IMO.

Good luck

I thought the Tube Zone copped the Mesa Rectifier vibe pretty well but can't say it's necessarily Petrucci in a box.

I have the TC Electronics Nova system, and can emulate closely a lot of petrucci's sound on Suspended Animation. The nova system has a nice EQ function, and in conjunction with the amp's lead/crunch channel is able to get some tones that are very close.

HRD takes pedals really well, whichever you choose though, consider getting a closed back 1x12 ext cabinet if you want to try for metal with it. Also if you use a modeller this a great amp for modellers straight into the power amp. 6l6's stay nice and clean that way and the speaker is really very neutral sounding, emminence legend is what it is with a fender logo on it.

A Boss Metal Zone is what I use at the moment in the loop on the clean channel and I can tweak it to sound pretty good, but I'm not getting what I want.

Believe it or not, a Boss Metal Zone gets me closer than a modeler on "Rectifier".

I insist, the Solid Metal slays the Metal Zone. Don't go for a regular distortion, get a good modeler, or a tube distortion, there are many.

If you like the Boss Metal Zone, try getting your hands on a Keeley modded one.
