Does anyone here have an idea of which John plays more often...the 6 or 7 string version?

What do the Petrucci owner's here prefer...the 6 or 7?

Also, I don't have much experience with a 7, but the idea is kind of interesting...are there any good sites with tips for getting started on a 7, or easy ways to incorporate a 7 into a 6 stringer's playing?

the 7-string has more low-end, even if you only use it to the low e-string.
i think the reason for this is that there is more neck wood, more wood more vibrations and resonance of the guitar and therefore a bigger tone.

i love playing both guitars, but for some songs it is way easier to play on a 6-string as on a 7-string.
the first month was very strange to play on the 7-string and sometimes i was confused about the string i´m play at the moment. especially in positions aroung the 9th to 15th frets and between the D and G string.
but after a while i got used to it.

I have seen Petrucci in concert about a dozen times over the years with Dream Theater and other side projects. He definitely uses the six string guitars much more often. It seems that he only uses a 7-string on the songs that need a 7-string. I'd estimate about a 4 or 5-1 ratio of 6-string to 7-string.

Petrucci originally influenced me to buy an Ibanez. After seeing him in concert I really starting digging those guitars. After getting the Ibanez, I saw DT in concert a few months later and found he switched guitar makers. What's up with that? ;)

I like playing my JP6 more, but it's hard to imagine not having my JP7. It just kicks all kinds of ass.
