Does anyone here have any experience with Phil Jones amps? I am considering purchasing one called the "Briefcase". But I have never heard one. Any opinions?

Thanks,

Ritchie

Pfffff. Thats hats just broken in.

The Phil Jones stuff is good.

Not my thing, but good. It had much more bottom than youd expect from those small drivers, but it wont get HUGE. Id prefer something more traditional unless, my main gig was at a jazz venue, or something similar.

And yes, that sticker on that USED Phil Jones stack (amp and 2 cabs, with the total size of an Ampeg 8x10) is $4499.00

I owned one of the first PJB Briefcase amps to be released. It was a great amp for what it was. The sound is great, but with only 2 5" speakers driven by 100W, it will only get so loud. I've never seen an amp before that would sound as different depending on what kind of room it was in and where it was placed in a room. If you could position the amp so that it was in a corner with about a foot of space behind it, it would put out a pretty impressive amount of sound.

And, if you want it for using with a battery pack for outdoor playing, it's the best available option.

It won't be able to handle must band work if you play with a loud drummer, or anything.

What are you planning to use it for? There is, apparently, a PJB Suitcase coming out that will be more powerful, yet still portable, but I don't know the details.

Thank you!

Thanks for the help. Our company is moving operations to Belize for the next two years. With the possibility of extending for up to five years! I need portability and something I won't worry too much about getting stolen. And chances are it WILL get stolen. They stole the WINDSHIELD out of our truck last time! I have an old Ibanez Soundgear bass I am not worried too much about. But I need a small amp as well. This one looks a bit expensive. So, I may opt for something else. I may end up selling all my current gear as well. :(

I had thought about those. But they are made by F***er, and I don't think I could bring myself to give them money.

On the other hand, if i knew 100% for sure it would get stolen and disappear into the tropical jungle...........

Well, I think that's a bit silly, but Line 6 makes a 1x12" combo that I was messing with at GC that was pretty nice for under $500. Plus, it has the amp modeling.

Maybe scope out EvilBay for a used Hartke Kickback or sump'm. Possibly an Avatar 2x10 cab and a Peavey bass head of some sort?

Try out Crate, I think the King of Lefthandzia has a Limo model, and we have a few of their "Taxi" line in stock, funky little battery powered(or wall wart) amps that are housed in plastic, good for humid places and they must be fairly inexpensive compared to a PJB.
not hi-fi but would still give you some noise.

Ritchie, I picked up a GK 200MB about a year ago, and think that it would be perfect for your needs. It's a 100watt combo with a 10" speaker, it'll do 200 watts into a 4 ohm load (adding another 4 ohm speaker). I have set it on top of my 4x10, and it had plenty of power to run it and the internal speaker, and sounded great.
