Recording a song for a friends new album, He said im going to be doing all the songs for the album after this one It's proggy stuff so when it's done i'll post a link. Got a lot of stick from one tutor for my bass cus he's a typical fender 4 string player "That's one string too many", "How many batteries has that got? 3?" But I stand proudly by my bongo It's one of the best basses in my class, most people just have average fenders. I'll try posting pictures/videos of my performance workshops on fridays, this week it's Eva Cassidy People Get Ready, last week it was Kiss by Prince so I got a bit of freedom with the bass line but simplicity is the key! And You guys will be happy to know that I got good feedback because I was one of the few bassists that didn't stay near the bass amp the whole time. You can't stand in the background when you've got a bongo!
Glad things are going well. Was wondering when school was going to start for you! Keep up the good work, don't let the tutor bully you. You using the best, just jealousy talking on his part You can dial in any sound you want
I'm at ACM, some people have something against it but so far it's actually really good, excellent facilities and met some amazing musicians, had about 5 practice sessions with different people this week and the tutors are amazingly helpful and i've learnt more about fretboard knowledge and playing blues and that sort of thing that i definitely needed to work on. Yesterdays class was actually amazing and I got up to play twice and plugged into a beautiful Aguilar with my Bongon to play a funk bass line i had only just heard and I got amazing feedback and then I got up to play White room by Cream too and sort of sight read it and it turned out that I was the only one that had actually taken a second to listen to the song before like he asked us to. I should also add that the bass room is called the musicman room must be sponsored by musicman and there's a stingray and a beautiful orange HH bongo. But, if Sterling Ball ever reads this: please send some more Even if we don't get to play them it's nice to have some more to look at and the tutor used the stingray and the EQ is completely dead .
If anyone is interested in seeing my actual photography blog: Alex Morris Photography.
Photography is my second love. Anyway i've got another jam session booked today to practice this weeks performance song: People get ready by Eva Cassidy, then tomorrow i've got one with some other guys to practice Metropolis.
ACM is fine - enjoy. Perhaps their 'Ray needs a new battery?
You should take a trip round to Andertons in Guildford - they have some nice MM basses usually (last time I was there they had one of those Redwood BFRs amongst them), and a booth with loads of Mark Bass goodness to play them through.
Perhaps but I would think that the tutor would know that.
Yeah Andertons is good and I get a discount, they just changed the whole shop but the MM collection is pretty horrific. A couple of standard stingrays and some sterlings, no 5 strings and no attractive finishes or anything else special.
Alex, if you look on the MM UK site, Strings and Things have a reasonable stock of instruments and they can be requested to have them sent to your friendly local dealer for test - as has been discussed many times here, the choice of instruments in shops in UK is not large, as you've found.
Yeah you're right, the tutor should know about the battery! Your description of him did suggest he might not be a lover of powerful onboard EQs however - so may prefer the Ray to be more passive sounding.
