Hi all,

I've been a long time passive reader on this forum, so it was about time that I created an account.

Here in Belgium we do have lots of choice when it comes to chocolates and beers, but guitars that's another story

I cruised to Germany to find a worthy companion for my PRS McCarthy, and the only guitars I liked so far were all balls.

First of all I tried out the Axis (being an EVH fan for ages), then the JP, but the one which really had most mojo was the Silo.

I have been GAS'ing over a Silo for a couple of months, but can't decide on the colour ... So far I like DD (I know, bit late for that ...), Desert Gold and Eg Smoke.
A black Silo with mirror PG could also look nice ...

I only seem to find pics of EG Smoke with python PG (don't really like this combo), and I would like to see some other PG's on Eg Smoke.

Does anyone have pics of an Egyptian Smoke Silo with a Black Ice PG (or other PG's)?

I also like Desert Gold, so all kinds of PG's on Desert Gold are welcome as well.

Also, does anyone know if American dealers can sell to Europe? I'm not going to spend double the price here in Europe ...
For the price difference I might even travel to the US and combine with a weekend NY ...

Cheers,
Dave.

Dave,
Welcome to the forum!
I have Silo pics of egyptian smoke with white pearloid or python pickguard only.
If I don't have the pics, they probably don't exist!

Black ice would be killer though!

No, USA dealers won't ship to Europe, so either pay the horror story European prices or hop on a plane......don't forget the import duty & VAT you'll need to pay at Customs on the way back.....unless you feel lucky trying to walk through without declaring it....

Thx for the info, Andy. I was already afraid that they aren't allowed to ship to Europe.
Even the VAT/customs are nothing compared to the ridiculous prices here in Europe ...
I should try to convince my boss that I should travel to our main office in the US ;-)
Maybe I could tell customs I brought the guitar along with me from Belgium?

Anyone who wants to share his experiences with buying transatlantic?
What are the odds of passing customs without declaring?
Can you bring the guitar along with you on the plane?
I would be dying of panic the whole flight back knowing how they handle luggage in airports...
Do you know any shops near to airports (or in centre of NY)?
It would be great to combine the purchase of the guitar with some sightseeing in the US, so any travel tips (places to visit/shops in neighbourhood of interesting cities ...) are also welcome.

Andy, I remember reading in your previous posts that your wife is also the singer in your band. We're both so lucky ;-)
Makes it a lot easier to purchase new guitars.

Foggy, I will try not to keep you in suspense as long as you did ;-)
But it was worth the wait. Man, that Dargie Silo looks sweet...
I wouldn't be doubting which colour to choose if the DD was still available...
I like the Blue Dawn as well, but I'm not too fond of the "2007" inlay.

Little chance of the guitar going on the plane with you these days. Usually they are OK in the hold (but last time BA lost my 335 for 3 days .....it showed up in the end).

As far as cheating the customs man.....well it's illegal so I can't advise you how to do it or on the odds or anything like that. If they catch you they can add on penalty duty and even confiscate the guitar. They're probably smarter at catching criminals than you are at being one. As you say the extra 20% or so still makes it a good deal. Again as you say, prices are ridiculous here.....sadly especially for EBMM.

Most of mine have been second hand from EBay and I paid the duty before the Post Office would deliver.

Lucky with the wife????Well suffice it to say that it's "ex" now. Still got lots of guitars though!!

I agree 100% with that....looks cheap and spoils the whole guitar for me. I think "special" inlays almost never work.......but then I'm no great fan of "Special" editions either. Too many of them about for them to be special anymore. Give me the plain ones any day.

Yes strange indeed, but it's EBMM's name for it.....not sure why it's any more special than the Silhouette.

Call me a grinch but I'm no fan of the martini inlays or the DD colour . Can't stand wavy maple tops either

Stirling Ball says plain black is the biggest seller and I can understand why

Well my 335, the J200 and my 360/12 are black.....but I'm not always that dull. My PRS is a goldtop, my 360 is light blue. The Epiphone is leopardskin and I've got a blue sparkle DiPinto.

The EBMMs??? Pearl purple & red sparkle. But not a wavy top, a sunburst or a "special" inlay in sight.

That Egyptian Smoke is a nice colour, though it looks green in some photos I've seen.

you could always sleep in the EBMM guitar case!!!!

Maybe make a big one out of a few cases. Hey you know that could work for a real bed, one shaped like a big EBMM guitar case, for the kids maybe??? A weekend Dad's project i think!

Its late, i'm going to bed, in my regular shaped bed.
