The Silo and the Silo Special pick guards are the same shape and size right?

I just picked one up off of EvilBay and the dude is claiming that the PG, which is SSH, won't fit a Silo Special. But I'm pretty sure that they are the same PG.

Anybody know?

Thanx, Glenn |B)

They'd have to be different sizes. Both cover the area from the bridge to neck heel, but the neck length is different on the two (22 vs 24 frets).

No, it's not the same body. The SS body is longer towards the neck, 2 frets longer exactly. The upper horn is the same but the lower horn is bigger.

If both guitars are the same scale, then the distance between the bridge and the nut is the same. BUT the SS pickguard spans from the bridge to the 22 fret, thus it's bigger than the standard 24 fret Silo, Because the 22 fret of each guitar is in the same place.

Silo Special pickguard is the HSS blue pearloid underneath, and is certainly larger than the Silhouette HSH shell pickguard on top.

Pete, that is excellent, thanx man, I see it now. Until they were overlaid I wasn't seeing it.

Did you get my email?

Interesting, thanks Pete. So, a custom Silo pickguard with the single coil right next to the neck humbucker (like on the Morse but with the neck hum, not the bridge) might produce a more authentic bridge+middle strat sound due to more correct pickup placement. Also the middle pickup might be more useful closer to the neck. It would require a bit of routing to expand the swimming pool but it might be interesting.

Ralph, no problem! If you moved the middle coil on a regular Silhouette (non-special) towards the neck pickup, it would wind up in almost the exact location as the middle coil on the Silhouette Special. You will probably notice the biggest difference in sound with position 2 (if keeping the factory wiring), because that will use the bridge coil of the bucker with the middle coil now closer to the neck. Position 4 will probably sound a little different, but perhaps not as noticeable as pos 2.

I'd love to hear soundclips if you go through with that project!

No I don't think so, I love position 4 and wouldn't want to change it. Yet... I was just trowing it out there for anyone to pick up.
