Well, I bit the bullet and ordered the moonstone guard. If it looks anything like the one pictures in this thread, it ought to look great on the Lava. I will try to remember to post pictures when I get it on the Bongo . . . .

Uh, considering that I just ordered the PG today, and for some unknown reason, EB chose to ship it UPS, I might not even get it in one piece . . . . . and definitely not before you could get the Stealth here . . . . . . please take pity on this poor soul, and don't hold the new baby hostage!

PUHleeeeeze!

I think tort on lava pearl would look great. LP isnt too far off from trans orange, and trans orange looks sweet with tort

Well, two problems.

1) The stealth is a 5, the Lava a 4 (IE, won't fit . . . )
2) I think I would like something a bit beyond plain black on the Lava
3) I think white ice on the stealth would make me blow chow . . . . . .

But thanks for the suggestion . . . . - Tim
Was white ice some sort of aberation insisted upon by Guitar Center? Does anyone else ever order these dynomighty colored basses with those growtesk PGs apparently cut from surplus commercial floor tile material? Is there a class action suite against GC to get us all a proper replacement PG plus 50K or 100K each for mental languishing?

Well, on mine, at least, it was. I looked at/played the bass and kinda went "Great bass, what idiot picked that pickguard!". Then the salesdork told me that it was on clearance, and I hadda have it, ugly PG and all. Still cost me less to buy + replace than to order one in this case . . . . . and then GC told me the clearance was 'cuz they were dropping the color. It appears that to be a Bongo in GC, you not only have to have an ugly PG, but also have to be a totally bland color - black or gold, or some crap like that. They appear to have forgotten that other (nicer) colors exist . . . .

The reds are really subtle in my moonstone pg. I think Moonstone on lava pearl would be some good.

Actually, I thought the Bongo pickguards were made from thinly sliced bowling bowls, rather than commercial floor tiles :p

I'm convinced that the person responsible for installing pickguards on Bongos at SLO does so using a "lucky dip" method :D

Exhibit A:

Stock pickguard vs my retrofit -

I think you're mixing up EB with Modulus. They never shred, slice, or cold-stamp the bowling balls as this makes them brittle. They are ALWAYs forged or machined-and-polished. Modulus actually began in Poland, where bowling is the National Sport. Their game is a bit different than ours: F'rinstintz the catcher's mitt is about the size of a trashcan lid :)

As to EB's pickguard matching, I thought that was a dealer order-form choice? BTW, nice choice on that PG replacement.

Eh, I have no problem with the White and Black Ice on certain finishes. I actually quite like it on the Lava Pearl Bongo. There is a great pic of a Graphite Pearl Albert Lee on the guitar forum with a Black Ice guard that looks fantastic.

Well, color me impressed . . . .

Well, I am impressed! Ordered the PG late on Tuesday, and whaddayaknow, it dropped on my doorstep today. This site won't allow enough upload space to show you both before and after, but here is the final result. Myself, I am now even more in love with this bass than when I started . . . . this PG seems to have a bit less red in it than the one pictured by the EB rep earlier in this thread, which is great by me . . . .

If GC stocked all the cool PGs in the accessories department, then I'd understand why they order the basses with PGs that most players will replace anyway. That's just bizniz, GC style. But since they don't stock replacements, WTF. Odd thing is that the local GC here is next door to a place that sells floor tiles....[really].
