I had an Axis with taps, and I didnt really like it at all. It just sounded all weak. But you may like it!
Do you think that has anything to do with your location in the desert? You don't really have the humidity swings that other areas of the country do. I live in Minnesota and we go from bone dry in the winter to nice 90% humidity come the 4th of July through Spetember. Almost all of my guitars have experienced fret sprout during the winter and into late spring when the humidity rises, UNLESS I go to great lengths to really over humidify the room they're in.
Now, the sprouting isn't bad, but it is noticeable nonetheless. The only guitar this has never happened to is my JP, and I don't know why. I've had two EVHs, an Axis, and AL that have all had sprout and even my new 20th has a bit (probably from being in a very very dry GC for almost a year!). But I don't do anything extra besides the lemon oil 3-4 time a year - and then the minor sprout goes away by mid-June or so. Not trying to pick a fight Jon, but I think that geography (and in particular, large humidity changes) can effect the occurrence of fret sprout. But I could be wrong.![]()
Guys - just picked it up and it is fabualous! I will post some pictures v.soon...... A question - is fitting coil taps a regular mod / is it advised / does it work well? Just though about it in the car on the way home!
First attempt!
Be at peace my son, thine instrument will surely be without fault.
Pulled the trigger and picking up on Saturday - brand new trans blue Axis - v.excited.....
Question - what to look out for on first inspection? Are there any common faults to check for?
Any advice appreciated!
