Steve Clayton Ultem.

I'm using small teardrop Ultems, 1.07mm, and I've NEVER been happier with any pick EVER.

Ultem is an amazing material, (almost identical to Dunlop Ultex, or so I'm told), very long lasting and sounds wonderful. Clayton's custom print service is cheap, excellent quality, very fast turnaround, and their customer service responds quickly to emails. Picks are a very important part of my equipment and I am very happy to recommend Clayton to anyone.

In fact, I'd love to see Clayton Ultems with an EBMM logo on them. That would be very cool!

I'm with you. I've recently started using Clayton acetals and I love them. May print up a bunch of custom ones too with this picture slanted on it along with my Sandtrooper number. The picks are white so this should look pretty tough.

+1 for Ultex Jazz III's.

There was a LONG thread on forumites' pick choices, but I wasn't able to locate it for you. I started using the Jazz III's (black) as a result of the thread, and have been most happy with them since..

I use Jazz IIIs, but a friend of mine turned me onto Jazz III XLs.. which seem good for riffin'.

The XLs are my new favorite! I bought 4 packs of 10 and they should be here today...

Is the Ultex J-III the same size as the regular J-III? Also, does the stickier texture go all the way to the point, or is it just on the gripping surface?

I tried the XL's, but the smaller size of the regular J-III is part of what has improved my playing. Just takes getting used to.

Acetals are good but they were a little too soft for my liking and didn't last as long as I liked. They have a warmer sound compared to the Ultems, which are very hard. In fact the guys in the band joke that I play with gold bullets! I think the Ultems grip better too.

Anyhoo, I'm not going back to Acetal but your storm trooper graphic should look great.

The audience don't see the colour, they only hear the notes.

At some gigs, I don't even hear the notes. That's what fret markers are for I guess.

I like those Dunlop Tortex and Big Stubbies are great too. A friend gave me some Snarling Dogs Brain picks 1.14 and they feel awesome too. I guess I'm not too "picky"

My choice as well. I use the standard sized ones, but sometimes I switch to the smaller teardrop guys. I love them because they have a nice rigid feel but aren't super thick. They sound great too.

I've just got myself a bag of Clayton Acetels in a 1mm tear-drop shape. So far, I like them: good warm tone and plenty of grip.

Bruce, the Ultex is exactly the same form factor as the regular J-III. The stickier texture goes all the way to the point. I'm trying to get more of them myself. I like them a lot. So, it's either black J3 or Ultex J3 for me.

Thanks, Rob. And that's why I asked - I never liked the feel of grainy or sticky texture picks in contact with strings. Think I'll stick with J3's black.

Since on the top-pick (groan), anyone else use the carpet to smooth out points? Just a couple swipes on a carpet renews the tip and removes burrs and sharp edges.

I use Gator Grips, just the .96mm, not the 2mm. Often times I experiment with a 2mm Big Stubby though.
