There is no right or wrong. Your ears decide what you like. I listen for overall tone, volume balance between the most commonly used pickup selections, and also the balance from between low and high strings.
Approximate factory settings are as follows, measuring from the bottom of the open low E-string to the top of the pickup's polepiece (allow a little closer on treble side)...
Bridge: 4/32” 3.2 mm
Middle: 5/32” 4.0 mm
Neck: 6/32” 4.8 mm
Grab a screw driver and spend some time dialing in what you like best. Enjoy!
I gave these measurements a try. This required increasing the height of every polepiece....sounds great...different but, well, very nice.
I've owned a lot of really nice guits over the years and this one just does it for me. I'm currently debating selling my nash strat (sweet guit) and moving to an sss Al (in that IBM-type finish with a tort guard)...decisions.
