Pickup Covers...

I hate to get off topic but I will try to keep this short. I want to get chrome or nickel pickup covers for my SG. These are the pickups that are on it now.

Neck Pickup: 490R Alnico magnet humbucker
Bridge Pickup: 490T Alnico magnet humbucker

...and I just need chrome or nickel covers that will fit on these two.

Also, (This is a noob question) but can you switch the inlays on an SG (or any guitar for that matter) from dots to pearloid trapezoids. (If these things need to be done professionaly how much would it cost approx.)

Sorry again for talking about a SG and getting off topic a bit but I need answers!!!

You'd need to go to a professional lutheir that handles inlay work to customize your fretboard. Probably cost a few hundred to have it done correctly.

To be honest I hate pickup covers. Hate! They're sometimes prone to microphonics if not properly installed on the pickup (soldered) and the pup subsequently potted. Plus they get all pitted from sweat and playing.

Anyway, any Gibson authorized dealer should stock a variety of replacement parts / add-ons for your gibson guitar. Flores Music in Peoria carries Gibson pickup covers for Gibson pickups in both gold and chrome. The only thing you have to be careful of is the pole piece spacing on the covers. the bridge and neck pickup pole spacing is different, so get the right ones.

sg man, i guess you have an sg special. The sg standard has the pearloid block inlays and the pick-up covers, why don't you just sell the special, and get a standard, that way, you won't have to risk a shabby custom job, and if you want to sell your guitar all customized like that, i don't think you'll resell for much, but if you just buy a standard, say for a thousand, you could probably resell for close to that...and plus it will be a true factory made gibson standard, not a customized special....thats my opinion...if you have some special affinity to this guitar..then thats a different story....

Gary's right. You could be looking at for an inlay job alone too much scratch to justify having that type of work done. Pickups aren't a big deal, but in the gist of the big picture, if you're looking to sell it one day it could hurt the value, especially if the work isn't up to snuff.

Ya...I actually think that I will steer in the direction of the standard. Its got the better inlays pickup covers and a special finish than my special. Thanx for the advice!

for the money get a Musicman instead. There apparently isn't any QC over there at Gibson these days.

I agree just get a music man... If you're set on the trapezoid...might be more cost effective to buy an SG with the correct inlays and find pickups that have covers on them already...

I dislike cover as well!

I am very much torn about another SG or a musicman (SGMan88 would be kinda useless if I went with the ladder though ) Perhaps I have had my fun on the sg and its time to snatch the good ol' MM
