how easy is it to do a pickup swap in a Silo? i would like to go SSS but the config on one i'm looking at is HSH... would i be better off picking up a true SSS with the silent circuit?

yes, you would be better off just going with a silo spec if you want 3 singles.

The pickups in my silo are awesome and i would never think of getting anything else.

i have a bunch of silhouettes and tried alot of different pups...nothing comes close to the silent circuity 3 singles...hendog knows what hes talking about!

The original concept for the Silo was to be modular. So you could swap in a new pickguard assembly with whatever you wanted. Even has a molex quick-disconnect so you can swap one in there without having to solder.

You can buy a full SSS pickguard assembly from EBMM and just swap it in there. Email the customer service folks.

Just one thing to remember - the 24-fret SSS Silo will not sound as "stratty" as the 22-fret SSS Silo Spec does.

So, If You are after "that" singlecoil sound, You should probably go Silo Spec SSS with a trem.

Or, as Rob would say it, try an AL :).

i'm really tossed...
i was thinking AL (i want a decoder ring so bad :D ) but honestly i love the feel of my 20th neck and i would presume that all the 20th necks are the same shape and feel (please correct me if i'm wrong) so i would hate to get an AL and have the neck feel differently to me... and i'm not opposed to the HSH configuration i would just like to have a SSS back in my line up...

in the last month i've gone from having 13 electrics mostly the famous SSS type to having a 20th silo- shipped off my last SSS yesterday and now i need another ball.

I've received my 91' HSH non-trem silo yesterday. Butterscotch blonde, wonderfully figured maple neck - man this thing really kills everything stratty on sound and looks, and goes far beyond.

I love the AL, but no doubt that the neck is different.

For me, neck feel is key. If you love the Silo neck, then I'd say stick with the Silo.

Indeed-
im chasing down a HSH Silo right now and waiting for the call back... unfortunately i would have to pay for it before i could play it as it's out of state- but if it'll get the statty tones and more thats what i'm after and the more i play the 20th i'm diggin the HH thing but being able to split the pickups like on the HSH would be awesome... wish me luck fellas! :D

They usually have a couple Silos at the Sacto GC. I'll be heading up there this week and report back.

That is just amazing and is a testament to the quality and excellence of EBMM.

I hate to vent- (as i've always had excellent customer service at my Sacto GC) but i went to the shop tonight to check out the Silos... but just to make sure i didn't take the 40 minute drive I called prior and was told they had a white hardtail (peaked my interest) told the salesman i would be down and it would take me about 30-40 to get there... i show up he's just going on "lunch" so i waited 30 minutes... found the "hardtail"- it was really a vintage trem and a higher price than i was told over the phone...
OK... so thats not a deal breaker i can live with vintage trem and we can work the pricing out...
Here's the deal breaker he walked out and said he would be right back... 20 minutes later he's still bsing with a co-worker. He didn't say jack squat as i walked out the door!

Ouch. I don't always shop there. But did you get to try it out and see how the neck feels? Did they have anything else interesting?

I did get to play it and I like the HSH config! While I was at it I played all of their ebs! They have two silos, a black magic sparkel axis, a few 25th, a few JPs and even a JP BFR that is a KILLER quilt top (the cherry finish). I was very impressed with the JPs
