i know this has been discussed before, but thought i'd start a freshie instead of hijacking a previous thread.

i'm looking for pickup suggestions for my hss silo spec. i'm thinking of going with lionel's set up - dimarzio cruisers, but maybe a timmons hb in the bridge.

i play mostly blues and rock, but sometimes throw in a little bit of everything. i don't really need a twang or quack, but some glassy sounds here and there would be cool...i definately like a little fuller sound than a vintage single coil.

what do you think?

(also, haven't shown pics of the ss yet..have new pickguard coming from SLO before i'm showing :) )

For the bridge humbucker, I love the Tone Zone in my special. I like a good PAF style pickup (pick your poison here, there are only a billion to choose from) from time to time, and I've recently started to really get along with the D-Sonic in my JP, but it's been a hard road for me and that pickup.

It's weird, because I absolutely loved the D-Sonic in the the JP I played in the store (the one that inspired me to GAS for a JP in the first place), but I had to really put in the hours of shimming and polepiece adjusting to get the same sound out of my JP. I was about ready to order a Tone Zone when everything finally clicked. The D-Sonic is stupid sensitive to height and such, and setup wrong it can be shrill or muddy, but hit that sweet spot and it really has a very "brown" tone to it- which is weird considering it has nothing in common with the pickups you'd usually use for that application. Anyway, sorry for the D-Sonic rant.

I'd regard the neck as a slightly fuller single coil..

I cover funk, blues, country and Pink Floyd on the pickup.. I absolutely love it.

The AT1 is the only Dimarzio humbucker I've ever liked, warm, mid power .. loads of harmonics and perfect string seperation.

One of my fave solo tones is the bridge split, mixed with the mid Cruiser. I lowered the cruiser to emphasise the quack and it's INCREDIBLE with heavy gain and slow chorus.

My AT1 was a special order but they're now part of the standard range.

I use a 500K volume and 250K tone pot.
