Pickups in H vs. HH

Hi Folks
I've had a Sterling H for a long time, and just oredred a Sterling HH and I am waiting for it to arrive.
I noticed that the humbuckers on the HH and HS models look different that the one on the H models. Home come? Are they different? Also, Will the HH with the switch in the bridge postion sound the same and my H in the bridge position? Same configuration of the coils? I haven't found any info as to the answers to these questions. Thanks!

There are several differences between an H Sterling and an HH Sterling:

H Sterling:
-triple coil ceramic/steel pickup with raised center poles (two sensing coils and one phantom humcancelling coil)
-series/single coil/parallel switch (series is towards the neck, parallel towards the bridge
-Old style MM pickup cover with 3 little tabs for mounting screws

HH Sterling:
-two double coil ceramic steel pickups with all poles the same height
-all switch positions are in series
-newer style pickup covers with one long and one short tabs for mounting screws

Congrats, the HH Sterling is my favorite EB bass! The tone and feel are the best.

Hmm.. Interesting
I strongly favor the sound of my H sterling with the pickup in paralell (switch towards bridge)
I was thinking about selling the H after I get the HH.. but I guess I can't get that sound huh? I guess i'll wait and see how it works out.

Definitely give it a chance, the tone choices are amazing. I don't play my H Sterling anymore I love the HH so much.

I think you'll be surprised how close it it and how little difference you'll be able to hear, especially in a live setting.

Yea I'll see what I can come up with. The switch in the middle position on the HH's really gives a wicked slap sound. For live I actually mostly use my relic Jazz Bass.

You are going to love switch positions 2 and 4 then. They sound like a cross between a Sterling and a Jazz. 2 gets a bit more growl, 4 a bit more low end to my ears. I use those two positions most of the time.

That's really some great information. Is this stuff, particularly the info on series/parallel, number of coils, and magnet material, documented anywhere for all of the basses that EBMM currently produces? I know they've made a lot of changes over the years, so I'm not so interested in a complete history...just the ones they're making now.

I, OTOH, am interested in the whole history... it's always good to have some extra knowledge up the sleeve for that occasional tempting opportunity in the sales threads...
