Pickups in the Steve Morse guitar

Although I am leaning towards getting an Albert Lee model, I was just wondering how you Steve Morse players like the pick-ups & their configuration? It is like no guitar I have ever seen with regards to pick-up location. I've been a fan of Steve's since someone turned me on to the Dregs years ago and Steve's incredible abilities are far too underrated. As I have stated in other posts, it's hard to find any other model besides the Axis around here, so any info would be greatly appreciated.

Well,

- bridge humbucker: best I've ever heard (much better than the ones on my LP Standard and Studio), very good and agressive sound
- neck humbucker: good, nice in addition with the other elements (as you may (not) now, the bridge PU can be added to each PU separate and the tilted single coil PU can also be added to the other PU's or you can use it seperately of course)
- single coil PU closest to the bridge: I have the feeling that it has less output than the other PU's, but maybe this is just because of the difference in sound it generates.
- single coil tilted PU: sounds very OK to me, although it has been removed from the new SM Y2d because of the fact that Steve doesn't use it very often and it gets in the way physically whilst playing

So, in all, a great bunch of PU's and certainly the fact that you can combine them in many different ways, makes it an extreme versatile instrument. And it may indeed take a while for you to get one if no store in the neighbourhood has it in stock, but if you're playing is a combination of distorted and clean tunes, than it's way better to have a Morse.

Just my opinion, I'm totaly in love with the guitar (and I have been an extreme Gibson fan for the past 15 years). EBMM just rules, nuff said.

More possibilities with the Morse, but I prefer the weight, playability, and single coil tones of the ALBERT. And 5 great positions is usually enough.
