Just came across these pics and I thought I'd share here.
Here's one musical moment I am personally proud of: Appearing with Frankie Lee at the 2007 Blues Music Awards in Memphis. I've been his bandleader since 2004.
He was nominated for two BMA's in the categories of Best Soul/Blues Album and Best Male Soul/Blues Vocalist for his "Standing At The Crossroads" album. For those that might not know, the BMA's are the Grammys of the Blues world, it was quite an honor to be there and perform.
This was my first experience appearing on an awards show of this magnitude - it was (barely) controlled chaos. It was Memphis' 50th anniversary celebration of soul/STAX etc., so they had all of the soul nominees perform to open the show. I was whisked onstage, and plugged into whatever Fender amp that was there. No sound check - I just cranked it and we played. It was broadcast live on Sirius/XM, my friends back home said they recognized the Rosy's tone! We did not win, but I had a great time.
I always get asked about this guitar. I love handing it to one of the Old Blues Dudes I play with who has never heard of EBMM, and seeing their eyes light up when they actually hold it, and then play it. Once they play it, they smile - the guitar actually makes people smile. Best endorsement I can think of.
I recently dropped some DiMarzio 36th Anniversary pups in Rosy. My first gig with Frankie Lee this season is Friday. I hope to post some clips and a more detailed write-up soon.
p.s.: I'm dying to get my hands on one of the AL HH's, but none here in Sacramento yet
The HH with its rosy neck, african mahogany body, and a set of the 36ths would seem to my signature blues model. I have a 3rd Axis SS I am ready to sell to fund an AL, I just need to get one in my hands!
