thanks! likewise to you.

have you played rays with maple fretboards? do you find it makes a difference in tone? can you even tell?

i picked maple because i thought brown looked sorta retarded. haha. no offense. so...yeah. my reasons were purely aesthetic.

but then again...i'm planning on getting a status neck soon, so that won't matter.
but still, i want to know if it makes a noticeable difference in tone

I, for one, don't buy into the "maple is brighter than rosewood" argument. If there is a difference, I've never been able to discern any. Even if there is, that's why we have the ability to eq our basses and amps to get the sound we want. I like rosewood for purely aesthetic reasons also.

Welcome to the DARK side! I have the matching black headstock, so I get to be MORE evil than you (until you get the neck transplant that is)!

My black beauty can be seen on the recent thread entitled Best of a bad bunch.

are the black basses common?
more common than others i suppose? but it's not like...every other stingray owner has black on black, right? i used to think it was more common and was sorta disappointed.

i need the status neck so my bass can stand above the rest of the black/black basses. :)

Besides, I hear BLACK is the new... well... BLACK!
And you can never have enough black until you can ask yourself "How much more black could it be?" and the answer is...

Pretty much. If you go to any Guitar Center there's always 2 or 3 Black Ray's. I've seen more Black rays then any other color. If you were looking for unique ...oops. Black is still classy though. I'd put tort on any black bass I would own.

Love the Spinal Tap quote there. For me, black on black is kind of boring. They seem to look a lot better with a different colored pickguard.
