I'm thinking of getting a fretless and wondered if you guys who use piezos could advise on what more i'll get out of a fretless if I pick the piezo option as well.

I once tried out a fretted HP Stingray in a shop (it was also black sparkle!) and found some interesting extra tones - not tried one with fretless though and there is not much chance of finding a fretless piezo MM bass to try out in UK :(

I have a Fretless Bongo 4HHP and find that the Piezo is a nice accent to the overall tone. I do not exclusively use the Piezo but add a touch of it to the tone blend of the HH pickups. But, there may come a song that just begs for the Piezo only tone.

I would recommend getting it to have the option. It is easy enough to turn it down or off if you have it but if you don't have it...well...you know :)

I had the opportunity to play a fretless Sterling with a piezo bridge last week and I'm sold. I've been watching the used market for a fretless Bongo 4HHp on the advice of others here. Good advice IMHO!

Cheers guys - that's useful to know.

I'm also keeping an eye on the used market for a fretless - someone had a gorgeous sunburst Ray in the for sale thread a while back - haven't seen a piezo there or on Ebay though.

May just take the plunge and order a new one sometime with piezo - as you say, the added fun is probably worth it.

Can you dial in 100% piezo? I really can't imagine what the pure piezo sound on its own would be like - does the EQ setting apply to it as well or is that bypassed as the piezo is dialled further in?

Yes you can dial 100% piezo if you need to, its difficult to descrive it but it does make for an interesting addition to a fretless, like a new voice, a bit nasal and a full of zing
