I really enjoy playing EB JPM but theres something which puzzles me when comparing to some of my other guitars. I find it quite a bit more difficult to grab pinch harmonics. Anyone got any ideas why this is?

Are the p'ups all the way lowered? To much mag string pull skwashes harmonics. My MM gets BETTER harmonics than most brands, but then I have a Silhouette with Lawrence p'ups.

yes i can answer this;) it is not the axe it is that custom wound dimarzio, let me explain,it is a real good pickup but it is very similar to the "steve's special" model which has drastically pulled back mids.causing the guitar to not respond to pinch harmonics as easily.
pu's like the tone zone, norton, duncan JB,duncan custom-custom all have a bigger midrange response making them all
better for pinch harmonics:cool:
I will attest to this if you swapped out that pu for one of the ones i mentioned you WILL have no difficulty getting PH's:cool:

Thanks for the reply...

So, could I simply EQ the mids back in or is this a function that happens at the pickup and strings?

when i first bought my jpm I had the same problem....after a week or so it was no problem....you just have to get used to the guitar. It's true that different pups will help you out.

Voltage gave you the goods. I have two JPM's with one of them having the Dimebucker in it, the other with the originals p'ups. The Dimebucker definitely gets the pinchs at will anywhere on the fretboard! I can get them with the other one, but not as easily. Took getting used to the guitar but I can pull them when I want them. Some spots being much easier than others. Good luck.

Thanks to you JPM players...I think I'll leave the instrument just the way it is. I love the way it sounds and plays...wouldn't want to muck with it... for the "different" style, I'll simply break out the Ibanez or do some experimenting with gain and tone controls.
