Jack,

Why don't you make a trip down to Baton Rouge on your way back? I'll show you some good eats and some cool EBMM's....??

Take him to Sammy's for the Shrimp Bienville et. al.

BTW... I need to come back down there myself ASAP 'cause I'm having second thoughts on my 25th

I'm doing purdy good on the food issues. Shrimp poboys, shrimp pasta salad, fried chicken, dumplings, and my sisters baked all day Sunday for Xmas treats. Ah, I do love the south, even if my cholesterol levels do not.

I'm expecting it tomorrow - and I'm stoked.

It's really cool to be sitting here with a fabulous Bongo in my lap, playing along with some Ben Folds and thinking, "Hmm, I'm going to have me a right nice Sterling 5 in short order."

Big thanks to Brad (that's bdgotoh to the rest of you) for hooking me up with this gorgeous beast.

It's going to be fun, comparing it to the plethora of Bongos.

Jack,
Where did you ever find a Medallion gold?

Congrats!

My dear friend Brad (bdgotoh) hooked me up with this one. And what a one to be hooked up with. Being me and all, you'd think I'd have had a go at all these different (new) basses, but I'm really leading a sheltered life lately.

This is the first Sterling 5 I've ever had to play with. Go figure.

There's always - if it's a good bass - this honeymoon period, it's new, it's the FIRST TIME, everything is all shiny and smells good....so I get that. But I've had this bass here in the studio for the last five or six nights and I'm not QUITE past the honeymoon, but I get what it does. And I'm old and cranky enough to know what I like and what I don't.

It's an HH, and I of course - being the old codger and all - had it cranked back to just the bridge humbucker. I told Brad, "I could really have gotten by, I think, with a single H." He said, "Position four? Have you TRIED it?" So I did, but only after playing for a few hours with just the bridge H.

But I came back to it the next night without influencing myself with just the H position. Whoa. I had to EQ it differently, but that's the point with choices, isn't it?

Yeah. Position four. Now I'm hooked.

I love this bass.

I keep looking at it, thinking "Well, you're not quite a Bongo, are you?" It's not, either....but it's got its own vibe and it's a beauty, too. I think I'll be keeping this one and bringing it out to gigs.

The Sterling 5. Me likey.

Jack
