Is it possible to get an Axis Sport with a plain top?

I know it makes me strange, but I'm not a big fan of quilts or stripes...

You can't get a sport of any kind unless you find an old one. We haven't made them in a few years.

If you meant Super Sport, all tops are luck of the draw unless you order the upgraded top.

You can always go for the pearlescent colours as well. Shame the sparkles aren't available anymore *nudge, nudge* ;)

I meant super sport...I'm just wondering if they'd make one if asked.

So Jon, if I paid the upgrade fee I could specify plain? What's the upgrade fee?

The upgrade is $500.00 How bad do you want a plain top? Plus, they all have grain. Some are just more intense than others

I didn't say $500 for a plain top...That is the upgrade charge. I really don't think we would charge for a downgrade. It would be luck of the draw like everybody else.

If you really don't like quilt or maple, why not go for a painted top then?

I always assumed the premium top upgraded was for the best figured maple as Jon says. Get a Desert Gold top instead  Or Carbon Blue. Far better than those trannsparent colours, eh Keith? ;) :p

Other very cool looking colours are Black, Sapphire Black, Rolls Burgundy, Candy Red, Medallion Gold...

I certainly wouldn't splash out on th epremium top to make it plain though.

Good one! :D

Isn't $550 the upgraded top list price (and wouldn't the actual cost be more around $300)?

It'd be a much better option to look at dealer stock and just choose a plainer top that you like.

I really don't know the street price of the upgrade as I am not involved in production/sales etc. but you idea of looking around at store stock would be the way to go if you are really into getting a plain top. As I said before it would be luck of the draw if you ordered a new one from us.

Well, I just don't like figured tops. That's just me, I think they're a bit gaudy, and I'm not a flashy guy.

I don't see any difference between paying extra for a quilt versus paying extra for a plain top. I'd just be paying extra for what I want. Don't we all have a few idiosynracies when it comes to gear?

Having said that, $500 would be a bit more than I'd be willing to lay down. I might just end up getting a black one.

Jon, do some of the regular tops that leave the factory end up being plain? I've just never seen a Super Sport without a fair amount of figuring.

We all have our own peculiarities and its healthy that way, or we'd all play Strats, listen to boybands and drive Toyota Corollas

I've definitely seen a plain top Axis SS. There's a very subtle quilt top transparent amber in my local store. The figuring is almost completely plain but it's very pretty in a subtle way. Unfortunately the store is in Edinburgh!

They might be able to ship it...the details are here:

Very nice crowd and very knowledgable but our exchange rate would probably put you off. It would work out about $2500

Depends on what you mean by "plain". They all have grain, some less or more than others, but all of 'em have grain.

Well, for example, the current Les Paul Standard is striped, the Les Paul Classic is plain. Looks like regular wood grain.

To be honest, if we got a shipment of plain maple delivered, we would probably not accept it. I think your only hope is to get an opaque color.

BTW my Les Paul Classic has MAJOR flame. :D
