After watching this video and being blown away, I'm planning to teach my 2 year old daughter to play guitar! Check it out and let me know your thoughts...

My daughter just turned 2 last week. My gift to her? One of those 3/4 size Hello Kitty guitars and a Dano Honeytone amp. She loves to strum on my guitars, so this way she can strum away on her own (I'll admit, she likes the Hello Kitty picture more than the guitar but it's a start).

I just started 'teaching' my 10 year old son to play. He didn't really stick with it earlier, but now seems more dedicated. It's just finger exercises for now...

I told them if he sticks with it, the SUB1 will be all his! Not a bad way to start eh?

I'm one of the younger ones on the forum and I can say from personal experience that most of the time the best way to teach someone younger (your kids) is to not force a guitar into their hands but to let it be an option. And on top of that just play a lot in your house like you would normally and have them be with you to see how much fun your having. That way they can get into on their own and not feel like it's forced.

Bought my son a half-size acoustic when he was two. He's four now. He likes to bang around on it every now and then, but he really wants "the one that plugs in." :p

I've been trying to convince my wife that we should really start him out with an EBMM -- maybe a BCB ASS with trem, piezo and rosewood fingerboard. She's not buying. :D

That's really cool! Good luck and let us know how it goes and your approach to teaching. I have a 4 year old daugher and 2 year old son...not sure I could stomach trying that with either.

I bought my 7 month old daughter a baby Taylor. It's her favorite "toy." She likes to slap the body and pluck the strings. Sort of sad, her acoustic is better than daddy's...

Mine is 4 and to be honest, she loves singing and dancing and posing for pictures more than playing, shes alway jumping in front of the camera. You gotta let em be kids and you just cant make em do something they don't want.

She already loves great guitar music I think this is the key. She loves Luke and now is completely hooked on Bonamassa New Day Yesterday, plays it everyday while playing games and sings every note. Awesome.

I actually share the basement with my daughter. One side of the basement has my guitars, amps and gear and the other side has my daughters' toys, books, basically a ton of kids stuff. It use to be my dream guitar and media room :( Since I always leave out my old beat-up Ovation (all of my electric guitars are in cases), my daughter would go over to it and strum, pick and bang on the strings to get different sounds out of it (she would laugh and have a great time doing it). She would even take her plastic toys and I'm not making this up, use the toys as slides! and every now and then actually get a cool sound out of those plastic toys. She even says the words guitar and guitar pick, so now when I play my guitars she asks for the guitar pick and strums the strings as I work the fretboard. After I saw the above video (of the 10 year old girl playing Steve Vai's For The Love Of God) I was inspired to teach her more but, of course keeping it fun so that she enjoys playing guitar (and for short periods of time). I even showed her the above video and she said the words guitar and girl and seemed to be slightly inspired too (I think anyway, since she was smiling). So, we'll be taking baby steps...

I figure by the time she is 2 (this October 10th.) we'll be able to re-create the Crossroads duel, of course I'll play the role of Jack Butler :D

By the way, I love those pics Slingy!

All the best,
Slav

and sometimes it goes a little something like this.......

lexilo001.jpg

she knows not to get too crazy around it.....small soft rubber dolls and small stuffed animals can be in the proximity of the guitar, but nothing hard or sharp.

I guess it's a start....she's already eyeing up the pink Hello Kitty guitar that someone mentioned earlier.
