I stopped by Chuck Levin's and played a Y2D stoptail today. First off, I love the body size. After playing big guitars for years, I still haven't gotten used to the smaller size of the Axis. The Y2D's body (the Morse body in general) felt very good. I really liked the tunomatic bridge setup. Very cool.

The tone knob seemed to really change the character of the guitar much more so than on my Axis SS or any other guitar I've played. Also, the middle switch position (SC only) was much quieter than any of the other positions. It was almost silent at the volume level set on the amp. Is that normal for the Y2D?

So, here's another question. Is the SC pickup's height supposed to be uneven from one side to the other? Probably not a good description. Put it this way, one side of the SC pickup was higher from the body than the other side.

Overall, I liked the quitar. I didn't have much time to spend there. I plan to go back and test the Y2D again along with a standard Morse and a sweet AL MM90. Variety is the spice of life :D

The bridge single coil is steeply angled with the treble side being almost level with the pickguard, and the bass side being closer to the strings (5/32"?). The volume drop is normal, and that is one reason Steve has it set that way.

How did you like the neck profile?

I liked the neck. I only had about 5 minutes to really play it. I found it a bit easier to play higher notes than my Axis SS. I'll have to give it another try with much more time. I'm also eager to try out that AL with the MM90's. I tried an AL a couple of months ago and really liked it. That was a single coil version though. I remember really liking that AL neck.

That single coil is pretty cool. Steve has it set so even on a gainy amp setting he can hit the single coil (or mix it with the bridge p'up) and get a clean, bright tone.
