Had about 5 minutes at the GC in Raleigh, NC. They had a Roasted Ray with Ebony in the new blue color. Didn't have a chance to plug it in but a quick A/B with a standard Ray revealed a brighter and quite snappy tone. Anyone else have any real time with one? Can't wait for my Bongo. JOSH

I walked into the Guitar Center in Manhattan wearing my Music Man hat and the bass guy immediately handed me a roasted neck Stingray and told me I had to try it. It played and sounded incredible! Looks amazing as well.

I recently was in a GC and was surprised to see a smokin' Honey Burst SR5 with the Roasted maple neck and board. The neck was perfect, incredibly smooth, and zero drag. Now I'm trying to sell a guitar to get one,I actually had a buyer but he flaked. What I took away from the little test drive was someday somehow I will have an MM with roasted maple neck. I couldn't really get enough time on it to A/B it with a reg Ray but it sounded good enough for a salesman to pop in and make a positive comment on the tone and then ask if thought I'd be able to stop the smiley face I had on, which I did after I got home and saw a dear john, instead of a paypal notice. Highly recommended.

Hey Lane,

Would that have been in the Totowa GC? I had that bass brought in from the Manhattan store for a little mixup by the management. I WAS going to take that one home, but I much prefer the satin finish neck. Don't get me wrong, I loved the look, asthetics, and action, but really missed the smoothness of the of the unfinished neck. I hope you can get her.

The pictures previously linked to for that bass were just beautiful. Best looking MM I've seen in along while. Then, somebody flipped one of these on TB for an insane price. Sold in hours.

Matt... feel of the neck was like that of a finished Classic neck or a 30th Stingray. I have always perfered the finished necks so it will be great in my household. So, feels great in my hands.

John... Give the neck a try. I don't think it would be a deal breaker for anyone who usually perfers the unfinished necks.

Josh,

It's just hard for me, as the unfinished neck was one of the reasons I made the switch to EBMM in the first place. I tried the roasted, but found myself missing something. I know others will disagee, but that's why there are choices right?:D

Hey John, yes it was in Totowa, tough time to sell anything, but I'll eventually sell the guitar and I'm definitely getting a roasted neck. I doubt the one there will stick around. I love the reg. necks also but I'm all in on the roasted thing.

I tried one but the one in my local GC and the set up was bad so I really didn't noodle around with it that much but no matter what, it's a great color combination and a great bass!

Thanks for the report. I love the feel of the 30th, so I'm pretty excited about these.... The ebony board helps too :)
