Playing Bass, Music, and the Hard Times....

I am so blessed to have started playing Music at the tender age of 12....1963. It got me through the good times so easily, but when I looked back at the hard times it has "carried" me through them. Like a crutch. Without it I would gotten into other crutchs that may have cut short my life.

It's a place I can go and it seems to understand what I'm going through. Before I became a Bassist for our Church in 1993 I was mainly a Blues Guitarist. I wanted to play nothing else. But as a Bassist I have grown to love and play different types of music.

Bass is the heartbeat or pulse of the song riding on the drummer's beat and doing my part to keep time and hold the rythm section together like glue. I like to be right down on the beat, it makes for an overall tight sound. If I get sloppy we lose that tighness right away.

I can honestly say I love being the Bassist..........and it's great to have a place to go when I need to escape life's hard times for a while.....

I think I am not alone here in this Forum. We have all congregated here as sort of a refuge from the storm, an escape if you will........

you know...........being a drummer first off.........i can totally appreciate the bassist.

since i started playin' bass........i get to jam with myself on drums really.........and it takes a guy to a different place.playin' music.......all the crap goes away.

nothing else matters,and things are all good.

you're right.......it's a heartbeat.........and that sustaines life.......

I love this quote! That's just how I feel, too. I haven't really encountered really hard times yet, but playing bass is a nice escape from the wife & kids for a while.
