More watts DEFINITELY helps.

But....if you add more watts and still keep that low-end-heavy EQ, what you're going to get is the proverbial "wall of noise" where you sure are pumping out the volume, but you STILL can't hear yourself. It's *what* you're producing, not *how much* you're producing that counts.

Another thing that helps is a cabinet with more, smaller drivers. I played through a 1x15 for years and it kinda sucked. If your amp can handle an extension cabinet, try plugging in a 2x10 or 2x12 with a horn. You might be surprised at the result.
