Make sure if you Ebay it & decide to sell it worldwide, make a clause stating that overseas bidders have to arrange for their own shipping arrangements.

To include being responsible for the appropriate import/export taxes/fees/tarrifs etc. based upon the declared value of the sale...

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what does having the bidder arrange their own shipping mean? Would I just take it to a place to be shipped and they'll take care of it or what?

They have to pre-pay it, fill out the necessary forms, & send you the necessary documents required for customs.
You can do it yourself but you may end up screwing yourself out of shipping fees.

International shipping can get expensive... Check-out USPS or UPS web sites for some rate & tarrif info...

Bah! Overseas shipping is EASY, don't get so worked up over it. Ship it USPS Global Air Mail....I sold a Fender American jazz 5 in a freakin heavy G&G Tweed case and shipping cost me $100. You pick up the form at the post office, it's a customs declaration sheet....big deal. I would advise against undervaluing the bass if the buyer asks you to. They get a break on customs that way but you could get screwed insurance-wise. Just have them pay Paypal, and have them eat the currency conversion charges (like an additional $20). Piece of cake and rewarding, knowing you helped out one of our European brothers....

That's fine BUT USPS tends to lose things once in a while. I'm an Ebayer & they've lost enough packages of mine to not trust something $500+....esp. overseas.
Oh......and never ship anything to Mexico.

On one hand, I agree completely - the "process" is not a problem...

On more than one occassion I have been asked by an eBay buyer to under-value the sale and/or declare the item as a gift on the customs form. I always refuse to do this, as I believe the value should be stated relative to the sale price (and I don't want the Dept. of Homeland Security giving me a call! ).

My listings always clearly indicated these overseas terms. Unfortunately I would still find myself with a buyer complaining about how much more the item would cost because of my position - these are complaints after the close of the auction/sale.

I have chosen to avoid the issue - it's not worth the headache for the few items I auction each year. But that's just me - I am not advocating refusal to sell overseas to anyone else, just strongly recommending that folks be as clear and upfront re: your auction terms.

Actually applies to all aspects of eBay sales (not just overseas shipping)- leave no assumptions and be as clear as possible.

Hey no offense intended, I ship plenty of packages on Ebay and elsewhere and have never had anything get lost by UPS or USPS. (80+ transactions) I will say that DHL lost something that was shipped to me, but found 2 days later..... Anyway, just trying to dispel the myth that overseas is an issue... it's not really a big deal, that's all I wanted to contribute.

I ship more than 80 things a month so I've seen it a lot more.
Also...only get Delivery Confirmation if you get it free......never pay for it......it is basically a waste. I've sent and received many packages w/ DC and upon getting my packages....the status on the USPS website said the package was submitted to wherever it was sent from.....even though it already went through a long transit.
I once had a package lost that had DL and the USPS said they couldn't do much about it.....unless it was registered too.....basically wanting me to spend close to $9 to ship a DVD......totally rediculous.
