i'm just curious about the sound of single coil bridge pick up on silo s s s.

can someone describe how it sounds?
it would be great if somebody has a sound sample of it.. i really like to hear it. thx

another (sorry it kinda stupid) question :
if we change the pick up on the silo (from single coil into single coil sized humbucker) , will it affect the silent circuit and the electronics inside? thx..

The Silo Spec SSS sounds is very Gilmourish I like it. nice compressed tone. Like the position 4 (Bridge+Middle) that is a Strat Killer.

Can't post a sample now as I am in the office but will try to do it this WE if I have the time.

The Silo Spec SSS is routed for SSH so you can upgrade with any pickup you like for the bridge position. I will probably never do that as my needs of SSH will be covered by the Luke :D

Sorry to hijack, but how does it compare to the AL? Both are SSS...

didn't try the AL yet, but I reckon Silo is a modern Start Killer while the AL is a vintage strat killer

Modern $trat$ suck big time, most of them are made from chopping board wood.
Not that I'm derespecting them, but I guess that's the fact, many of my guitarist friends are utterly dissapointed with modern $trst$, that's why I'm turning them on to EBMM!:D

Modern and vintage $trat$, other than the bad quality and seasoning, are they any different?

Yes, but 70s and 80s strats can't be considered vintage, imo.

I think by "modern" he just means hotter s/c pickups.

I dropped a SSS set of Silo Spec p'ups into no-name strat, and they sounded great! I bought the set from a friend for 100 bucks, who swapped them out on his silo for Fralins. Never used the bridge only p'up, though.

I never use the bridge p/up in any of my guitars. I like the warmer sound of neck p/ups.

I find the Silo Spec's bridge single has a great vintage strat sound- not too hot, but enough bite to it.

The AL's is a bit of a different beast- it's got twang! Have to say it's my favourite single coil to date- just sounds so good clean or cranked.

beej, do you mean that twang is from the AL's bridge pick ups? is it because of the copper plate under the pick ups?or is it because the seymour alnico 2 sound character?

i played a sss silo special a few weeks ago and really liked the tones, very comparable to the AL, great clean tones for sure.
Rob, i heard that AL sound is more like a telecaster killer , while silo sss sound is more like a strat killer?is that true ?

i dont think the AL is a tele killer at all, sure it has a nice bridge tone which is very tele, but really its a STRAT KILLER!!!! trust me.

oow..thx for the information rob..
previously i thought AL model was developed based on telecaster model, since he used to play 52 telecaster before ebmm AL model(if i'm not mistaken)

btw, which is your favorite pu position on AL?

Yeh, I'm on the neck p'up a good 50% of the time. Big and round, and it cleans up the tone just right.

That said, these are my very first HSS axes, and though I haven't been into buckers for a long while, I use the heck outa the bridge p'up now. I've pretty much lost interest in SSS arrangements - AL not withstanding, but only cuz they're only available in SSS. To my ears, 2nd postion w/coil tap sounds ever bit good as on a SSS ax.
