M'kay, so now I have an SR5, purchased used this evening from the local GC. I know, I know, the Collective (or the Wife, same difference) is going to exact retribution sooner or later. But until that happens, I get to fool around with it.

Here's the deal. The bass is trans red with matching headstock, with a maple fretboard. It also happens to have a white pearl pickguard and, of course, a white pickup cover.

I hate white pickup covers. I'm going to try to figure out a way, short of painting this one, to get hold of a black cover.

Be that as it may, I'm no great fan of white pickguards, either. So, in ever-lovin' knucklehead fashion, I'm hereby posting the futile poll (which will, no doubt, eventually lead to every possible choice receiving equal votes).

Choose a pickguard for my bass. Remember, trans red SR5, MHS, maple board (photos to follow later):

that is a beautiful color, I was going to suggest white pearl until I read the rest of your post. as for the pickup covers, they are adhered to the pickup with a lot of glue and separating the pickup from the cover will probably end in one or the other being destroyed. your best bet is to find someone who would want to trade pickups, yours for a black. you could also do a clear plexi guard.

Ok, I'm scaring myself. Did a search and found candy red (not trans) SR5
with Tort, and it looked very nice. But, a white pup cover won't fly to well.

I would think the white pearl pickguard woud look sweet. My fav. and my vote. Have that on my purple SR5. but moot, as you said you don't want white...

Quite possibly. Let's keep this open as a possibility....

I need to let the reality sink in. Maybe I'll change my mind.

I take it yours is from one of the two basses in your sig?

Anybody know if the SR5 pickup has changed at all since 1998?

Not the actual bass, but here are representative pics from the instrument builder on the MM site. The actual color looks a bit darker than this and is dead sexy.

1st, Nice job of the bass samples. really helps.

Ok I be fickle
I am not digging the pearl white with the trans. plain white would be better.

But, I now think Black looks best, after seeing your examples.

OTOH, BP says he likes the white pearl/trans red combo, and that it reminds him of his burnt SS.

You should not argue with the King.

I might just have to keep it the way it is and name it:

Poppa's Toaster :p:eek:

We'll see how the poll turns out.
