I'd like to go on the record right now by saying that I'm not trying to be out of line or wrong here towards EBMM, etc. Please DO NOT, under any circumstances take this thread as such, as truly it is not my intention. However, I will admit that I am let down to know that I will not be able to get my new non-Limited Edition guitar with a Buttercream finish, my true color of choice. This color alone is what sparked me, Mr. Cheap Skate himself, to leave behind the practice of buying eBay guitars to further my love and collection of EBMM guitars and go head first into the brand new guitar arena.

By learning that Buttercream will not be available as a standard color, as well as being backed by koogie's post in my previous thread to Jon, Scott, etc. it seems that I am not alone in the desire for this color, if you'll pardon the relation to a certain forum member, to become the norm. :)

This does not (rest assured Pete LOL!) change my outlook and direction regarding purchasing the guitar as planned; also, if need be, I fully intend to proceed with the alternate color that you voted me to go forward with if in my currrent position. I will love, care for, nurture, feed, and take for walks my new Sil Spec with the same undying love as I share for my EVH and current Sil Spec, but there will be a place and a private longing in my heart for this finish going forward.

In essence, I have 2 1/2 weeks before I make my order, and I'd like the people to speak up to see if minds can be changed. I do this, yes, with a little personal desire and greed, but also as a service to the forum users and EBMM customer base to allow their voices to be heard, and to provide EBMM with enough evidence that the demand for this color as a stadard would be worth their while.

I ask you not to vote yes because I want this color; that would not be fair for you, me, or to EBMM. I do ask you to vote your conscience, as if you were in the position of buying a new guitar and were desiring this color in question. (This is still mirroring me unintentionally, but keep me personally out of your decision!)

I thank you for your time on this matter. :)

I'm not going to vote, because I don't really care either way: the color does nothing for me, personally... But I could see how it would appeal to people picking up a Sil. or Sil. Spec., especially with a tortoise shell guard. It's a nice color, but I'd much rather see them bring back some of the really unique finishes that EBMM are known for - like the sparkle bursts - than buttercream... Anyway, if they've announced it as a Ltd. Ed. finish, they would be breaking faith with those who jumped on the limited run if they were to announce it as a production finish now, and I don't think they're likely to do that...

See your point, and where you're coming from, JD, but LE's are significant in their own way, i.e. this run with the cream inlays, cool a** case, black headstock, etc. I, and I'm sure that there are others out there as well, would like to see this as a standard color.

I'm just posing the question though, and the people will ultimately take it from there.

RR was labeled as a LE finish, and now it's in the rotation...

I would concede that this was added after the LE timeframe, etc. but I'm just looking at the overall end result. Hmm...then again: RR -- standard color, Envy Green -- gone. If they alternate via that pattern, good things could happen. :)

I also don't care either way.
I feel EBMM has plenty more colour options than their competitors as it is.
I think they should have a smaller number of basic colours, then come out with a few new limited edition colours every year or two.
This I think makes certain ones more valuable and collectable.
So whether BC is standard or a limited run doesn't matter to me.
I can see how some really wnat it. So with that, good luck either way!

1 cup Butter-Flavored or Golden Crisco ( solid vegetable shortening )
4 cups powdered sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 fluid ounces heavy cream
gel or paste food coloring (optional)

100% would make this again

Send to a friend
print recipe

Cream shortening until fluffy. Add powdered sugar and continue creaming until well blended. Add salt, vanilla, and cream. Blend on low speed until moistened. Add additional cream a teaspoon at a time if necessary to achieve the right consistency. Beat at high speed until frosting is fluffy. If desired, divide frosting into several small bowls and stir in food coloring to create various colors of buttercream frosting.

Easy as PIE!

Maybe they'll come up with a similar color at some point.

It would be amazing if they'd be willing to do it for darrell (being the mod and all). I know he's not an ebmm endorsed artist, but he does do an important service for the company.

Realizing the company has to play the "IF we do it for him..." game. I'm pretty sure all of us would be okay with it.

But they take care of us in so many other ways (repair, technical questions, etc.), they do have to draw the line somewhere. Putting BAIM on the headstock of my last Luke, for instance.

They're still lauging over that one. And that was like a year ago.

Hey Darrell. I here from the "low" side to vote as you asked. Buttercream has such a classic look that I think it would be a great addition to the line. The only downside would be that it would negate the uniqueness of the special editions that are being built now.

I am only going to disagree with you for this reason: I bought a Radiance Red JP-6 recently. Not the LE, but with matching headstock. I say, let them have the LE run with the matching fret markers and backplate like they did with the RR JP's and then introduce it as a standard color. I think the uniqueness would remain with the LE's as with the LE run of the JP's with the black headstock run they did a while ago. I personally passed on the LE JP-6 in RR due to the black headstock which I did not like. Just me. Your point is a very good one, but, I still think they can keep the color, but only make so many LE with matching fret markers and end it at that. My 2 pennies.

I voted no in the poll. You all bring up good points, but what is the limited aspect of this color/model? Color, fret dots, pickguard, silk-screen brown logo and back plate. These are small cosmetically and would differ only slightly from a later production run. (I didn't forget the case, I just comparing guitars)

The other limited runs had a striking difference in the black headstock, that's why I don't mind Rad Red being a production color. You'll never be able to get that color scheme betwen the h/s and body ever again.

Just my two cents.

With that said I'm gonna order me a Limited Ed. BC Pet with dot inlays.

I voted yes to the BC as a standard finish. It is simple and timeless enough that I think it will be a popular seller years down the road. Plus it may just catch the eye of some "vintage" players who wouldn't consider a Sparkle or Kermit Green finish. IMO the limited editions should be a little wilder / more unique than standard finishes (like Hummer Yellow - come on E-B - how many times do I have to tell ya! ).

I voted NO, NO, NO (no offense)

The fact that it is LE adds to my enjoyment of
owning my future Bongo5HH & makes it unique.

SLO should bring trans white/Mary Kaye back
into the line :D (sorry Gav)

Not a colour I'm keen on. But I'll vote YES as long as they rename it "Pus" which it most resembles
